LJ , » . ^ Mrs. Dutton Of Burt Is 97; Honored By Family Burl ««. A family dinner was held at the Melvirt Dutton hbrne iii Burt Wednesday evening in honor of Mrs Ruth Dutton, who observed her 97th birthday anniversary Sunday, Dec. 3. . Attending the dinner were Mrs Button's children, The'Melvin Buttons, Burt, Mr and Mrs Ira Dutton, Algona, Mrs Nellie Miller, Wykdff, Minn., Mr and Mrs Wallace Me- Arthur, Bancroft, and Vivian Dutton, Burt: One daughter,'Mrs Irene Carmlchael, Fairfield, was'Unable to attend. •' Ruth Worden Duttofl was born in a log cabin near Aldgn, HI., Dec. 3, 1864. She received her education and married, in Illinois, .coming, to Kossuth county When . her eldest child, Melvin, was 2 yeiars old. . • f She has been a resident of tfos- suth county ever since, The Buttons became the parents of 10, children, 6 of whom are still living. Twins died in infancy, and two daughters, Clare Koppen and Pearl Miller died in 1946. Mr and Mrs Dutton observed their golden Wedding anniversary in 1937 and Mr. DUtton died in 1938. Mrs Dutton also had the honor of being present when her son, Melvin and wife celebrated their gol- dert wedding in April, 1959. Mrs Button is the last of her family, and'at 97 is still well and active and enjoys getting maiL She makes her home with her children, recently at the Wallace McArthurs and presently at the Melvin Buttons. She insists on waiting on herself and eyen helping Others. GrapplersDrop •First Dual To Clarion, 2l-« Algona high school's wrestlinf team, which had won its firs two' dual meets and placed thin in the Eagle Grove Invitationa Meet in three earlier outgoings got edged 21-16 by Clarion's ma team in the high school gym here Tuesday .night. A forfeit in th 95 lb. class probably was respon sible for the defeat. , Coach Champ Martin's team will travel to Blue Earth for a meeting with the always-tough Blue Earth team Saturday; night. Bob Ellefson, one of Algona's two undefeated yarsity grapplers, missed the Clarion meet due to a skin 'infection. Ellefson, 145 Ibs., had r won two matches in dual meets and went undefeated through the Eagle Grove Invitational Saturday. So Martin, without Ellefson's services, was forced to move everyone fr,om 112 through, 145 Ibs. up one weight against Clarion—a distinct disadvantage. N < 'Results:. (C) decisioned Mike Kain picked up his fifth straight win of the new season in his 145 lb. victory. He also won an individual championship at Eagle Grove. Algona took the B-team meet as Immerfall and Stratton registered falls and McCullough and Burtis took decisions. Jergenson and Alt got draws and Clarion won two arid Algona one through forfeits. The Bulldogs wound up in third place at the Eagle Grove Invitational Meet Saturday. Coach Champ Martin's team won the title a year ago and came close to annexing it again this season. Dodge CO ALGONA I"" 6U Eagle Grove I 49 Iowa Falls , 47 Clarion 20 Hampton K, Estherville II 15 former Burt Woman Passes At LuVerne Burt — Burt friends were saddened at the sudden passing of Mrs. Walter Ruger at her home at LuVerne about 9:30 Saturday morning. Death was due to a heart attack. Mrs. Ruger was former Nelda Volentine, daughter of Albert and Mary Volentine of Burt. Nelda was born at Burt Mar. 15, 1912. She received her education in the Burt school, graduating with the class of 1929. On February 13, 1936, she was united in marriage to Walter Ruger. They became the parents of one son, Thomas Harry, 13, who with his father survives. Also surviving are two sisters, Winsome, Mrs. Gordon Whittemore, Wichita, Kansas, and Ellen, Mrs. George Crawford, Mason City; and two brothers, Glenn Volentine, Tacomia, Calif, and George Volentine, Omaha, Nebr. Last rites for Mrs. Ruger were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Zion Lutheran church in Lu- Verne with the Rev. Allen Riutto officiating. Burial was in the Lu- Verne cemetery with the Blake Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. and Mrs. Volontine were visiting at the home of the Whit- temores in Kansas when they received the sad news. They arrived home late Saturday evening. Lakota Takes Pair Of Games From Ledyard Lakola — Lakota grabbed a pair of basketball games from Ledyard here Friday night. The girls took the opener, 45-33, and the boys took the finale, 44-41. An early surge gave the girls their win. Rolling to a 13-4 first quarter bulge, Lakola held the upper hand, 31-15 at halftime and 37-25 at the three-quarter mark. Marilyn Rippentrop led Lakota with 35 points and Herzog got 15 for Ledyard. The boys game was cozy all the way. Ledyard led, 12-11, at the quarter and 24-22 at halftime. Lakot,a zoomed back and led by 40-35 at the end of the third period. Clare Barrett got 12 points and Jim Rose nine for Lakota and Menke led both teams as he pumped in 14 for Ledyard. Janice Hannover Of Whittemore Engaged To Wed Emily OU, 8 The eighth birthday of Emily Ott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orlan Ott, was celebrated Sunday with a family dinner at which the grandmother, Mrs. Ella Ott, Hartley, Mrs. Emil Scharmberg and Mr. and Mrs. John Schmidt, Everly, were guests. Mr. and Mrs. Rudolf Hannover, Whittemore, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Janice Ann, shown here, to Larry Ramus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Ramus, Lone Rock. The wedding is planned for Dec. 16 at 7:30 at St. Luke's Lutheran church (Fairvilte), Cylinder.
