The salary appropriations for city em ployes will be reported to the city council on Friday. Mayor Hannai and Councilman Van I.lew admitted defeat of the plan to classify and equalize salaries by voting with Counciitncn Needham and Myerly for the salary appropriations by departments.

Mayor Hanna will recommend a raise in salary for Horace Susong, city clerk, from $1,700 to $1,800. Councilman Van Llew will ask for a raise for Harry Me-Nutt, smoke inspector, from $1,500 to $1,400. Next year he hopes to be able to secure an advance for the chiefs of the police and fire departments. The appropriations must he made on Friday, as next Monday is pay day for city employes. The salary of liennls Burns, city auditor, will remain and John Backman, city treasurer.

It is understood that Councilman Needham will recommend an advance of $100 per year for every man In the department of accounts and finance. Center control logically follows left-hand drive and is sure to become standard on all American motor cars.
