The hog market was active and prices advanced 10 to 20 cents with the bulk of the medium and heavyweight butchers selling between $15.75 and $16.00, and best sows topping at $15.65. Salable receipts totaled 1 l.OOO, or 4,000 fewer than advance estimate.

Pvt. Donald i ana sy.uu. MEETING HERE BY DAIRY CO-OP Eleven directors of the Dairy and Poultry held their regular business meeting Monday at Hotel Fort Des Moines, preceding the stockholders meeting. The group, a dairy sales organi zation, is owned by co-operative creameries, and has its headquar ters in New York, N. Y.

Delegates were present from member groups in North and South Dakota, Iowa. Nebraska, Kansas, Illinois, and Ohio. 30 Per Cent. Since Feb. 1, 30 per cent of the dairy products have been set aside by the government for overseas' and lend-lease purposes.

The dairy and poultry co-operative is an au-i Jl, inonzea saies agency to receive restricted products and channel them into the various services, this organization dealing more particularly with the army and navy and, In much smaller measure, with the merchant marine. According to P. L. Betts, of Chicago, 111., general manager of the co-operative, volume of dairy production will double before Mav. By fall, distribution will become more diverse, not only in greater quantity to the armed forces, but also to lend-lease.

Output. The average output of cream-fry butter in the United Spates is 140 million pounds a month, of which co-operatives make about 35 per cent: the remainder is put out by private processors. An Ohio unit is the single dried milk plant of this organization, which reported a "successful year with a large sales volume." INSURANCE TAX RETURN SOUGHT The Alliance life Insurance an Illinois firm, Monday filed suit in Polk county district court to recover Iowa premium taxes amounting to approximately collected by it on policies of the old Peoria Life Insurance Co. The petition, filed against Charles R.

Fischer, state insurance commissioner, further asks that Fischer be enjoined from collecting premium taxes for 1942 and thereafter on policies issued or assumed by the Peoria Life Insurance Co. on Iowa residents. The Alliance Life Insurance Co. contends it entered into a reinsurance agreement with the receiver of the Peoria Life on Oct. 4, 1934, and has acted merely as a collecting agency in a fiduciary capacity for the Peoria Life Fund.

It further contends it did no business in Iowa in collecting premiums and would need no license in Iowa to do so. The petition also said all such premiums received are part of the Peoria Life Fund and arc not subjert to claims of other policy holders or creditors of the Alliance company. The Alliance company further asks that Fischer be ordered to renew its own certificate of authority to transact business in Iowa which expires Apr. 1. 0m.
