Quota foi 1 the 'referendum date wa? deferred, 'pending action to pro'vide an improved wheat program for the crop. Insetting the August 24 referendum date, Secretary Free* man said; "The decision that farmers make is extremely important to them and to the rest of the nati.on not only for 1962- but also ' for many years to come. The program available With quotas in effect would be iW different' from that which tduld be operated ' without quotas."' ' The date for the referendum on 1962 wheat marketing quotas is being set' now in order that as many producers v as possible may be apprised of the voting time. All eligible producers will be encouraged to participate in the referendum, making their desires known through a free vote. If- quotas are approved by at least two-thirds of the farmers who vote in the Aug. 24 referendum, copperators will be eligible for 1962 wheat price support at a level to be determined later. If quota's are not app'roved by the' necessary percentage of votes, there will be no limit on market- ings, and price support — at 50 percent of parity — will be available to those farmers who com-. ply with their acreage allotments. Ballots will be cast at local polling places throughout the 39- Stete commercial wheat, area. Location of polling place for the »cpunty will be at the Kossuth Co. ASCS Office, the local county ASC committee will have charge of the referendum. In all TB 'Conditions, early l-eatment is most important.
