The Des Moines Register GC OBITUARIES ALMANAC Tuesday, March 22, 2005 Page 7B KEITH W. FIELDING Chariton Keith W. Fielding, son of Dr. F.P. and Bertha Wright Fielding, was born on May 27, 1917, in Milo, IA and passed away on March 19, 2005 at the Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center in Chariton, IA.

He attended school in Milo and graduated from Milo High School with the class of 1934. He was a student at the Hohenschuh-Carpenter College of Mortuary Science in St. Louis, MO, graduating in 1935. Upon graduation, his internship was served at the Bessmer Funeral Home in Perry where he worked for two years. He then went to work at the E.

Carl White Funeral Home in Des Moines where the State Board was taken and he received his embalmers license. He worked in Des Moines for two years before moving to Fort Dodge to work at the Laufersweiler Funeral Home. It was here he met Mary Laufersweiler, whom he later married. On January 1, 1941, he established the Fielding Funeral Home in his hometown of Milo. He was inducted into the service of his country on June 3, 1942.

He served until his discharge on January 29, 1946. Much time was spent on the Eastern Coast a of the United States and in 5this the European Theatre of operation with the Medical Corp. He was a surgical technician in operating rooms, on hospital ships and at first-aid stations. On June 28, 1944, he was united in marriage to Mary Laufersweiler, of Fort Dodge, in Wareham, MA. To this union, two sons were born, Charles Craig and Clark William.

Upon discharge from the service, they re-entered business in Milo. On December 1, 1952, Keith and Mary purchased half interest in the Beardsley Funeral Home in Chariton and operated as a partnership with Mrs. Edith Beardsley until her untimely death in 1958, at which time he purchased the remaining interest. Keith was a member of the first United Methodist Church of Chariton, serving on several boards; past president of Chariton Rotary Club, Chariton Lions Club and Chariton Investment Club, of which he was a charter member; a member of the Carl L. Caviness American Legion Post, serving as Post Adjutant for several years; He was a charter member of the Chariton Chamber of Commerce and was a past chairman of the Ambassador's Club (Red Coats).

Most recently, he had served as a board member of the Chariton Senior Citizen's Center. As a member of the lowa Funeral Directors Association, he was awarded a 65-year membership recognition in 2004. He was a past president of the 6th district (Des Moines) while living in Milo and the 5th District while in Chariton. He was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association. In 1973, he was invited into membership in the National Selected Morticians, which is the highest honor one can achieve as a mortician, there being only 14 others in the state of lowa at that time.

On January 31, 1983, the business was sold to his son, Clark Fielding. Keith was preceded in death by his wife, Mary on December 5, 1993, after 49 years of marriage; and by his parents. He is survived by his son, C. Craig of St. Joseph, MO; son, Clark and wife, Maureen of Chariton; grandchildren, Amanda of Coralville, IA, Jess McKenna and husband, Ryan of West Des Moines and Nathan and Austin Fielding, both of Chariton; and one great-grandson, Liam McKenna of West Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 23 at the Fielding Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 22 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Chariton Senior Citizen's Center or the Chariton Public Library.

CARMEN CORTESIO Rathbun Mass of the Resurrection for Carmen Cortesio, 79, will be 11:30 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial at Elgin Cemetery, north of Mystic. Memorials to the church may be sent to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home in Centerville. AUDREY J.

ANDREW Des Moines Audrey J. Andrew, 81, died Saturday, March 19, 2005 at Kavanagh Hospice House. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 23 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, with burial at Glendale Cemetery. Audrey was born November 23, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa.

She retired from Burgin Drapery Wookroom. Audrey is survived by her daughter, Susan Andrew and niece, Cheryl Kiley. Visitation is from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kavanagh House on Grand.

EDYTHE MORALES Des Moines Edythe Morales, 74, died Saturday, March 19, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, with burial at Avon Cemetery in Avon Lake, IA. Edythe was born January 15, 1931 in Des Moines, IA. She graduated from East High School and attended Grandview, Drake and Northern lowa.

She was a teacher associate for years, retiring from Willard Elementary Sc School, and a member of Chesterfield Christian Church. Edythe is survived by her husband, Ray Morales; children, LaJean (Michael) Reed, Penny (John) Connett and Chuck (Tonia) Morales; sisters, Frances Hague and Helen McVey; brothers, Frank and Robert Keeling; and twelve grandchildren. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in memory of Edythe Morales.

ERMA NORMAN Des Moines Erma Norman died of congestive heart failure on March 20, 2005 at Heather Manor in Des Moines. Services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 23 at Westover Funeral Home. Erma was born in 1917 to Orville and Bessie Overton. She was raised and spent her life in the Des Moines area.

Erma was employed at Banker's Trust for many years and thoroughly enjoyed working with people. In retirement, she took great pleasure in raising flowers and caring for the birds, squirrels and all the little animals that frequented her yard. She traveled occasionally but spent most of her time with her family. Erma loved being with family and was always a source of inspiration, knowledge and support. In 1981, Erma's only daughter had unsuccessful brain surgery that left her in a coma.

Erma took care of Barb every day for over three years until her death in 1984. Through this difficult time, Erma never questioned her faith in God and remained a model Christian throughout her life. Erma used her experience and her faith to help organize the first support group in lowa for brain injury survivors and their families. Erma was a charter member of Windsor Heights Methodist Church and contributed generously to many charities. Erma was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Barbara Winchester.

She is survived by her sister, Pauline Ketman of Overland Park, KS; son, John Sr. of Tallahassee, FL; Barb's sons, Troy (Debbie) Winchester and Chad Winchester, both of Des Moines; and John's sons, John Jr. (Deborah) of Orlando, FL, and Chuck of Tallahassee, FL. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren. Visitation is from 6 to 7 p.m.

Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Americn Cancer Society or Animal Rescue League of lowa. Westover Iles Funeral Homes MARJORIE A. WILLIAMS West Des Moines Marjorie A. Williams, 90, died of cancer Sunday, March 20, 2005 at Kavanagh House on 56th 6 held Street Memorial at 11 in a.m.

Des services Thursday, will Moines. be March 24 at Westover Funeral Home. Marge was born September 2, 1914 at the family home in Webster City, lowa, the sixth of seven children born to Arthur and Rachel Wilson. In 1939 she married Malvin Williams. She had lived in the Des Moines area for 70 years.

Marge was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Pilot Club. She volunteered at Living History Farms and Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Marge was a real lady who loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed playing bridge, movies, traveling and doing needlepoint. Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Mal; her parents; and five siblings.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol Bauer of Denver, CO, and Sheri Harris of Des Moines; a sister, Ella Carmichael of Ankeny; two grandchildren, Timothy Harris and Lauri Mazigian; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jessica Rasmussen; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends at a memorial visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Westover Funeral Home. Westover Iles Funeral Homes KATHERINE ANN SYNHORST Des Moines Katherine Ann Synhorst, 80, died Saturday, March 19, 2005 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24 at Central Presbyterian Church, preceded by private burial in Resthaven Cemetery. Ann was born in Chicago, IL and lived virtually all of her life in Des Moines. After graduating from the University of lowa she married John V. Synhorst in 1946.

Ann was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, past Chair of the Women's Division of the United Way, past President of the Junior League of Des Moines, member of the Colonial Dames and PEO Chapter HM. She enjoyed many years with her bridge club and many summers with the family at Lake Okoboji. Ann is survived by her husband, Jack; son, John and Suzanne Synhorst; daughter, Julie and Bruz Linn; daughter, Susan and Jack Textor; and seven grandchildren. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Dunn's Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wesley Acres Foundation Fund. Dunn's Iles Funeral Homes DON R. COFFMAN Indianola VIE Funeral services for Don R. Coffman, 70, who died Sunday, March 20, 2005, of a brain tumor at the Taylor House in Des Moines, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24th at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.

Burial will follow in the 1.0.0.F. Cemetery in Indianola. Don was born in South English, lowa and graduated from North English High School and A.I.B. in Des Moines. He had served in the Air National Guard for years and the United States Army for 14 years, retiring in 1995.

He had also retired from Armstrong Tire and Rubber. He worked for the 1-35 School District as a bus driver, worked part time for Veterans Memorial Auditorium, Des Moines Convention Center and Drake University for the athletic events. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post past County Commander and 6th District Commander for the American Legion. He served as Warren County Director of Veterans' Affairs and had worked for 45 years at the lowa State Fair and numerous years at the Warren County Fair. Don is survived by his wife, Connie of Indianola: children, Jennifer (John) Welcher of Osceola, Jeffery (Betsy) Coffman of Castro Valley, CA, Jean Louise (Randy) Collins of Osceola and Jolene Murphy of Indianola; sister-in-law, Catherine Coffman of Sigourney; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 23 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be designated to the Don Coffman Memorial Fund to be distributed to the various organizations that he was involved with. OVERTON FUNERAL HOME Indianola, Iowa WILLIAM CARTER HAYES West Des Moines William Carter Hayes, 82, died March 20, 2005 at lowa Methodist Medical Center. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Tuesday at Hamilton's Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Nevada Cemetery in Nevada, Iowa. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. William Hayes was born June 10, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Drake University and I served in the US Army in World War II.

He worked for Younkers for 37 years as a buyer in Des Moines and also as a Store Manager for Younkers in Cedar Rapids. He moved back to Des Moines in 1986. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, playing the trumpet and lettered in tennis in High School. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his children, Susan (Bill) Taber of Des Moines, Greg (Annette) Hayes of Urbandale and Robert (Betsy) of Allen, Texas; and eight grandchildren, Alex Taber, Ben Taber, Ted Taber, Alison Hayes, Stacy Taber, Mackenzie Hayes, Dan Hayes and Rylee Hayes. William was preceded in death by his son, William and his parents, Laura and William Hayes.

JEAN F. PACHOLKE Sioux Rapids Services for Jean F. Pacholke, 84, will be 10 a.m. today, March 22 at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids, with burial in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Council Bluffs. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

FRANCES GORDON Des Moines Frances Gordon, 87, died Sunday, March 20, 2005 at her home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24 at Merle Hay Funeral Home, with burial at Masonic Cemetery. Frances was born July 21, 1917 in lowa City, lowa, to John J. and Minnie (Traver) Williams.

She worked in Accounts Payable at Younkers and was a member of Elks Doe's Lodge and Highland Park Eastern Star. She was also a past president of BPO Doe's and past state president of Pocahontas. Frances is survived by her husband, R. Don Gordon; children, Larry (Virginia) Kuesel of Oakland, CA, and Shirley (David) Kopper of Wichita, KS; stepchildren, John (Sharon) Gordon, Robert Gordon, James (Mary) Gordon, Janis (Wally) Smith and Barbara (Chuck) Rice, all of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 25 at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola, with visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Burial of cremains will be in the 1.0.0.F. Cemetery.

Ruby was a lifelong resident of Indianola and an employee of Bankers Life. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Firemans Auxiliary and Warren County Historical Society. Ruby is survived by her sons, Gary (Anne Marie) Moore of Jacksonville, FL, and Roger Moore of Indianola; and grandchild, Adrian Braun. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Robert Moore in 1998. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post Peterson Funeral Home Indianola, Iowa ROSE REID Granger Rose Reid, 90, passed away Monday, March 21, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger, of which she was a member, followed by burial at Beaver Catholic Cemetery, also in Granger. Rose was born September 4, 1914 to James and Mary Manning, and was a life long resident of Granger, Iowa. She was the head cashier at Sears and Roebuck at Merle Hay Mall and served as city clerk in Granger for 30 years. Rose enjoyed flower gardening and especially enjoyed spending time at Assumption Church.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford; her sisters, Agnes Quade, Henrietta Tiernan and Catherine Rieck; and her brothers, Clement Manning, Patrick Manning, Jack Manning and Robert Manning. Rose is survived by her children, Cathy (Glenn) Jennewein of Overland Park, KS, Robert (Renee) Reid of Ankeny, Ronald (Jo) Reid of Nashville, TN, Ray (Bonet) Reid of Saylorville and Patrick (Mari) Reid of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Carrie Jennewein, Katie Jennewein, Janet Reid, Nick Reid and Grant Reid; brother, James Manning of Granger; and her sisters, Sister Leona Mary Manning of Davenport and Rita Hettich of Dousman, WI. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Pence Reese Funeral Home Newton, Iowa DAVID ALAN BAILEY Pleasant Hill David Alan Bailey, 45, went home to be with his Lord Saturday, March 19, 2005 of a massive heart attack at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. The celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24 at Hamilton's Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton's where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Wednesday. David was born December 18, 1959 in Des Moines, IA. He was so in love with his wife who has faithfully stood by him in hard times as well as good times. They are truly a blessing to each other. He so enjoyed playing Nintendo with his son Brice, who by the way could really whip him.

David was also fond of his daughter, Megan whom he loved to take to dance lessons and he so enjoyed going to her recitals. He was very proud of his daughter. Heidi who is now at lowa State University. His oldest daughter, Amanda brought him so much happiness when she married a wonderful man named Brandon. They gave him such joy with his first grandson, Bailey Adam Fields.

He was so very proud of his grandson and enjoyed playing with him. He loves all children so much. David was grateful for his mother-in-law, Shirley, who has lived with the family and helped in so many ways. David loved Golf, Golf, Golf, Golf and Nascar racing. David will be greatly missed but he has gone home to be with his Lord and we would not want to call him back from such glory.

It will be hard for us but we have a wonderful saying: God is Good, He is good for all the time. He has chosen David to go home early, he will be so missed. He is survived by his wife, Becky; daughters, Amanda and husband Brandon, Heidi and Megan; son, Brice; parents, Paul J. and JoAnn Kitt; brother, Paul G. and Jeanie Kitt; sisters, Becky Wyman and Greg Veach and Faith and Chris Ward; grandson, Bailey; and many nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his father, David W. Bailey; patergrandparents, Merle and Darline Bailey; maternal grandparents, Hazel Stinson and Vernal Vinzant; brother, Danny; and sister, Beth Ann. ORVILLE (JEFF) STANLEY MYERS Urbandale Orville (Jeff) Stanley Myers, 84, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines on Saturday, March 19, 2005. Orville, the son of Oliver and Jennie (Grove) Myers, was born in Minnesota on April 2, 1920. At the age of four, he moved to Astoria, Oregon, where he lived until graduation from Astoria High School.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served with the 8th Air Force in World War II. He attended Drake University, receiving a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Education. Jeff married Winifred June Peterson on June 1, 1946 in Des Moines. They had four children, Judith, Steven, Kenneth and Sonja. Jeff served at schools in Walker, Rowley and Winthrop in northeast lowa.

After retirement, Jeff and Winnie moved to Lake Panorama. In 2004, they moved to Urbandale. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Guthrie Center, a 50-year member of the American Legion and belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Panora. Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Thorraine; one half sister, Mary; one son, Kenneth; one granddaughter, Shannon Behan; and one son-in-law, Dean Rather. He is survived by his wife, Winifred; daughter, Judy (Bill) Elliott of Walcott; son, Steve (Nancy) Myers of Urbandale; daughter, Sonja (John) Behan of Independence; six grandchildren, Scott (Grace) Raether.

Pam Thorne, Andy Myers, Jackie Myers, Carrie (Josh) Lehs and Julie Behan; five great-grandchildren, Ashley Thorne, Alissa Thorne, Christian Raether, Tyler Behan-Osborne and McKenna Lehs; half sister, Ruth Cook; and half brother, Eddie Selven. Visitation will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22 at the First Presbyterian Church in Guthrie Center, with a Masonic service to follow. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, followed by another visitation at Fawcett's Funeral Home in Winthrop from 6 to 8 p.m.

Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. Private family burial will be in the Story City Cemetery. Bob was born June 14, 1932 in Radcliffe to Howard S. and Myrna G.

(Classon) Anderson. He married Lorene Lura on February 4, 1956. He was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church, Story City American Legion and was active in the horse industry. He and his son, Gordon operated Horse Sales in Ankeny from 1983 to 1992 and owned and operated Horse Sales near Story City since 1992.

He had previously farmed, raised hogs and had worked at the Sale Barn since 1950. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Bob is survived by his wife, Lorene of Story City; a son, Gordon of rural Cambridge, a daughter, Connie Lee (Steve) of rural Huxley; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Ethel Matsen of Newton and Virginia Sopeland of Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be after 3 p.m.
