Roving motorcycle gangs caused incidents in northeast Iowa and northwest Illinois over the Labor Day weekend. An official said the plane was heading west at the time of the crash and "could have been circling for a landing" when the left wing tip broke off several small tree branches. The left wing then hit branch about 8 inches diameter and the wing was severed from the fuselage. The rest of the plane skipped across the ground and came rest in a small creek bed after right wing was peeled back after impact with a large tree. The plane traveled about 300 feet after initial impact and lost a wheel and a door when a small ridge before coming rest in the creek bed. There was no fire.

Deputy sheriffs at the scene said the plane still had some gasoline its tanks. One veteran investigator speculated the plane may have been "scud running" dodging low clouds -and somehow lost contact with the ground while keeping the airport sight until it was too late. weather was misty and drizzly with a ceiling estimated at feet. Sputtering Sound Mrs. Colleen Swarts, 30, who lives across the road from the Eilander farm, said she heard the plane sputtering overhead.

"It sort of stopped right over our house and I was scared to death it would fall on us," Mrs. Swarts said. "I could see the lights on the plane. It sort of drifted away and I heard an awful thud. I knew what had happened." Mrs.

Swarts' husband, Newton, ran across the road and into the valley where the plane crashed but couldn't find it in the darkness. Mrs. Swarts notified Newton police. Sheriff's deputies arrived shortly and found the plane. All three men were dead and the wreckage was strewn over a wide area.

Marciano was under the fuselage; the other two were thrown clear. The 1966 model plane, valued at $10,000, was owned by Executive Flyers, a flying club to which Belz belonged. Alan L. Frank Farrell was an insurance salesman for Mauro Insurance agency. He was a 1965 graduate of Dowling High School, where he had starred in baseball and basketball. He went to Arizona State University and the University of Iowa before dropping out of school to become head of the family after his father died. He is survived by his mother, Carmella; three brothers, Thomas, John and William, and a sister, Carmie Lou. Services for Farrell will include a rosary at 8 p.m.

Wednesday at Dunn's Funeral Home and a funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Glendale cemetery. Services for Belz will be at 1 p.m.

A funeral mass is planned for Marciano at St. Coleman's Catholic church at Brockton. The body will then be shipped to Fort Lauderdale for a funeral mass at St. Pius Church there. Recent Activities Since his retirement in 1956, Marciano had spent much of his time doing public relations work and making public appearances.
