The 74 building and loan asso ciations in Iowa have made ap proximately $800,000 in home loans during the last year, it was announced Saturday by Robert J. Richardson, president of the Fed eral Home Loan Bank of Den Moines. The outlook for the next year is bright for several reasons, Mr.

Use 25 Employes. -A new Des Moines concern, the Gisin system, has completed installation of manufacturing equipment in its plant at 621 Sixty-third and samples are now being made, it was announced Saturday by Charles Gisin, president. Actual production, with 25 employes, will be under way June 1, according to Mr. Gisin. Rotary Electric Dugs.

The firm at present is equipped to manufacture rotary electric plugs, roller window screens and collapsible clothes racks. Lathes, drill presses and die stamping machines are in operation at the plant which was formerly the Valley Manufacturing Co. building. A minimum production of 3,000 electric plugs a day Is planned at first. Orders already are on hand in large volume, according to Mr.

Gisin. Incorporated for $100,000. The company, which was incor porated for $100,000 last year, occupies 4,600 square feet of floor space. Popcorn machines former ly were manufactured at the plant. J.

Stonehill Creamery Opens Office Here Neal Stonehill, of the Stonehill Creamery Cleveland, Ohio. has established western headquar ters in Des Moines.

The firm buys the output of ap proximately 15 Iowa creameries and operates its own truck line to Cleveland. Realtors to Attend Annual' Convention Approximately 30 Des Moines realtors are planning to attend the convention of the National Assoc! ation of Real Estate Boards at Minneapolis, Minn. un der the Chicago Great Western railroad tracks will start in about a week, it was announced Saturday by the Koss Construction holder of the contract. A timber trestle is now being installed by the railroad to sup port the tracks while the under pass is built. Excavation for the highway is being done by the Bemis 4 Schlick Des Moines. The underpass will consist of a steel plate girder on concrete abutments. Approximately 50 men will be employed by the Koss firm.

75 ARE ADDED TO RISK FIRM Central Life Assurance Society Reports Business Gain. Seventy-five full-time employes have been added to the home office staff of the Central Life Assurance society during the last six months, George N. Ayres, president, said Saturday. A substantial upswing in busi- ness and recent purchase of the Illinois Life Insurance Co. of Chicago, 111., made necessary the increase, Mr.

The Globe Machinery Supply Des Moines, manufacturers of lifting equipment, has 20,000 units in operation and recently has made shipments to 27 foreign countries. The firm was established in 1893 by D. H. Buxton as1 wholesale distributing house of mill, mine and factory- supplies-. In the last 20 years, in addition to Its distributing activities, the firm has manufactured tractors, dumps, boilers, hoists and other equipment.

Business Gain. Firm executives report business is running about 300 per cent ahead of a year ago and that they are optimistic regarding prospects. This is attributed to greater confidence among buyers, as well as the stabilizing influence brought about by the Blgnlng of the petroleum code, automobile specialty equipment code, and other trade agreements affecting the industry. Auto Hoists Made. In 1919 the concern began making truck and wagon dumps for grain elevators.

In 1928 the exclusive and patented principle of the dump was incorporated in Bn auto hoist to be installed in oil stations and ROAD ORDERS 500 BOXCARS Steel Equipment Will Cost $1,200,000. The Chicago Great Western railroad has placed an order for 500 new, all steel boxcars with the Pullman Car Manufacturing Pullman, ,111., according to Patrick H. "Offices of the national reemployment service have made every possible effort to supply capable men," he said. Crowley contends contractors are not the "ultimate consumers" of the highways, and that the ruling will result in a 2 per cent increase in bids for contracts to be paid for by the state. CREDIT FIRM REPORTS GAIN Cash Payments, Sale of Goods Increased. A 25 per cent increase in amount of cash received and number of payments made in the collection department of the Credit Refer ence and Reporting Co. was re ported Saturday by Raymond Hal stead. Similarly, Des Moines firms re port a 5 to 10 per cent gain re cently in payments on goods sold on credit.

"This is particularly significant." Halstead said, "because of the Ijeneflcial effect on the turnover of Stocks." A recent survey of credit ratings for persons in various occupations showed office employes to have the highest ratings. STORM RISK RATE LOWER Contents Levy Reduced to 17 Cents in Some Croups.
