New Recordings For the Tots: 'Peter Pan' IT ISN'T OFTEN that anything takes precedence over music, in this column. But it seems pertinent to call attention to "Walt Disney's Story of 'Peter Pan" (Disneyland) just released. Jimmie Dodd of the Mickey Mouse Club TV gang tells the story pretty much the way it happened in the Disney cartoon version, replete with dramatized portions and songs from the original soundtrack. Bobby Driscoll plays Peter Pan and Hans Conreid is heard as Captain Hook.

The album itself constitutes a picture book drawn from the motion picture. The young ones can harly miss thrilling to this one? HUMOR Those a little older will most likely thrill to "Stardust" (Dot) by the ultra- pleasant Pat Boone. The selection is entirely familiar Purple," "Heartaches," The backgrounds by Billy Vaughn utilize orchestra and chorus in the manner which has made Vaughn a bestseller in his own right. Less conventional is "Music for Non-Thinkers" (RCA Victor) by the Guck-enheimer Sour Kraut Band of San Francisco. Herr Doktor Guckenheimer is, in reality, widely known merchant, Richard Gump, and the music here was recorded in his store.

The performers are all dil-letantes, some of them as well known as Gump himself. The humor in this "music" is pretty broad. Selections range from beer-hall music to a German band version of "Stars and Stripes Forever," with vocal in German. Given the proper atmosphere and frame of mind, some of this is good fun. EXOTIC Arthur Lyman has two new illustrations of the technique that made his album "Taboo" a best-seller.

"Bwana (Hifirecord) and "Hawaiian Sunset" (Hifirecord) make use of such exotic sounds as those of the Chinese bamboo flute, Conch shells, boobams and the uliuli. The sound is spectacular, partly because the recording was done in Kaiser Aluminum Dome in Honolulu. The music is often ex-' citing and most is jazz-oriented. "Dancing with 'the Blues" (RCA Victor) by Al Nevins and his orchestra is essentially Les and Larry Elgart with strings. Nevins, a member of the Three Suns, has no orchestra on a permanent basis this is a group of studio musicians.
