I The Brookshire Times VOLUME 38 BROOKSHIRE, WALLER COUNTY, TEXAS Thursday, March 6, 1952 NUMBER 14 Brookshire School Contract Let The two additional rooms needed for the Brookshire Elementary School are a possibility in the near future, as the contract was let to Mr. Forest J. Small of Rosenberg, in the meeting of school board on Monday night. The school board also wishes to announce the vacancy on the board of two members, whose terms will expire this year. Anyone interested in doing this civic work, and becoming a member of the school board of your school but need information as to the procedure contact Mr.

A. K. Brookshire at the Dozier Farm Equip. Co. or the proper authorities in Hemp'stead.

Local Boy Scouts to Participate in Circus Friday The Boy Scout Circus is an event of March 6, 7, and 8, at the Houston Coliseum, and on Friday, March 7, the Boy Scouts of Katy will perform. They invite you to be on hand at that time. Jimmy Morgan Leaves For Army, February 28th Jimmy Morgan left Thursday night for San Antonio and the U.S. Army. He was an employee of the Humble company before his departure.

Mrs. Morgan, Wanda, has moved in with "good ole Mommie and Daddy," Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Nelson. She plans to rent her house while Jimmy is in the service.

As soon as Jimmie finishes basic training, which will be in June, Wanda plans to make her home with him near the army camp. Katy Sewing and Gift Shop To Be Opened Mrs. Adele Moebes is the owner of the new Katy Sewing and Gift Shop that is soon to be opening. Mrs. Moebes comes to Katy from Raymondville where she operated a sewing shop of this type.

She has the necessary equipment to make belts, cover buttons, make buttonholes, and will do alterations and any type of sewing. She will have handmade gifts for sale. She will have her shop in the little building next to Bean's Beauty Shop. Rev. and Mrs.

Derwood Blackwell Entertained Visitors to Katy Friday and Saturday and overnight guests of Miss Louise Schlipf were Rev. and Mrs. Derwood Blackwell of Mineola, Texas. They were entertained with a dessert and 42 party, Friday evening, at the P. C.

Pitts home. There were ten tables of 42. Refreshments of pie, coffee, salted nuts and cold drinks were served. Guests were Mr. and Mrs.

Cooper were 111 Brenham Tuesday morning. Katy F. F. A. to Hold Annual Father Son Banquet March 8 The Annual Father and Son Banquet of the Katy Chapter of Future Farmers of America will be held in the High School Cafeteria Saturday night, March 8.

Those who will attend are the chapter members, honorary members, fat stock show commitee members, and special guests. The dinner will be informal chicken in the rough. Ten Future Homemakers, dressed in cowgirl regalia, will do the serving. After the dinner the group will assemble in the auditorium for an hour of entertainment featuring some of the top talent of Katy and Addicks communities. Mr.

George an perienced radio performer, will be master of ceremonies. The entertainment will offer a variety of talent featuring a vocal duo, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Avera; Scottie's "Four Flat" Quartet composed of Melvin Scott, Benny Stanbury, W. C.

Stockdick, and Rev. LaMunyan; winner of Press Capade Talent show at Sam Houston College, Crooner Wilton Robinson; the songs of Cousin Bob Rogers; the tap dance artist, Miss Jean Miller; the acrobatic artist, Miss Elizabeth Sparks; and the cowboy poet, Mr. E. H. Marks.

The program in the auditorium will start at 8:30. The public is invited. Attend Funeral of Faithful Colored Helper The George Rhemans attended the funeral, in Courtney, of their faithful colored friend, James Abanathy, on Sunday. He was a foreman on the Rheman farm for many years. C.

R. and John England attended the annual Texas Alfalfa Dehydrators' Asso. in Sherman, Texas, last week-end. MAX WANDER Southwestern Life Insurance Co. Reports Gains of 1951 New high marks in business for 1951 were reported today by Southwestern Life Insurance Company 88 the Company's 49th annual financial statement was released for publication.

A new record in annual life insurance sales was annuonced by President James Ralph Wood, who said the company's Texas agency force in 1951 produced $121,207,090 of new paidfor business, which resulted in an increase in the Company's insurance in force to a total of $891,107,312 at the end of the year. In response to the steady demand for capital to be used in construction or improvement of Texas homes, farms and business properties, the company increased its loans on real estate to a total of $100,804,510.62, and this category of investment now holds more than 40 per cent of the company's assets. Southwestern Life is represented here by Max Wander. Mr. and Mrs.

Stanley 'Rheman, Janis, Ginger and Tommy are making their home in the old Robichaux home. QUEEN EVELYN from the HOUSE OF GOYNES, "Queen of Hearts" in the Stardust Coronation Ceremonies, February 14, in Katy School Auditorium. Hundreds Applaud Shrine Entertainment A large crowd was on hand Saturday evening for the very good entertainment sponsored by the local Arabia Temple Shriners for the crippled children. The program was one of the best. The Katy High School Band performed with their usual good music, as did the Katy HiChoral Club, and the Sextet.

Mrs. Alice Powell, of the Hallie Pritchard School of Dancing arranged a collegiate number with her local pupils, Fay Molt, Reba Sue Cook, Peg Hann, Kathlenn Bishop, Mary Kay Freeman, ertson, Vicki Linda Cardiff, Lott, Karen Rocky Robertson, Marsha Fay Fussell, Joyce Gordon, Pamela Moore, Becky Cardiff, Betty Meyers, Dwagne Fussell, and Peggy Talley. This was really enjoyed by the audience. The Ramsey State Prison Farm Orchestra which won top applause was brought to the Shriner's entertainment by Captain McAdams, himself an Arabia Temple Shriner. Captain MAdams has been awarded the outstanding warden award for 1951.

He has under his supervision 7,000 acres of land, where crops and cattle are raised throughout the year on a paying basis. On this farm there are separate cell huts for each prisoner, an experiment that is proving helpful. The Addicks, Barker, Brookshire, Fulshear, Katy Shriners wish to. thank the local merchants for the gifts donated and for the presence of 80 many friends who made donations and to those who came to enjoy the program. He also wishes to thank the school board and management and the highway patrolmen for their assistance.

Mr. E. M. Huggins III in his opening remarks, expressed hope that all could visit the new Shriners' Crippled Children's Hospital that was opened Feb. 16.

He said that while the hospital was paid for, the work was only begun. The operating expenses must be met. Mr. Huggins introduced Noble Homer Jackson. He called the new hospital "The Temple of Mercy," and said that one never stands so tall as when he bends to aid a crippled child.

J. J. Walding, Kilgore, 60, died Feb. 25, following a heart attack. He was buried at Kilgore Wed.

27. Services were in East View Baptist Church there. He is survived by his mother, 3 sisters and 6 younger brothers including L. B. Walding of Bloodmobile to Return to Katy will make a return The Red Crose Bloodmobile on April 7 to collect blood for the armed forces.

B. Culpepper and Janice Matlock visited Pfc. Frank Culpepper at Sheppard Field in Wichita Falls last weekend. A surprise visit was paid Sunday to Mr. and Mra.

J. L. Harwell and daughters by Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Gragert and sons of Richmond, Mr.

and Mrs. Jesse Ognoskie and son, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hovercamp and daughter, Miss Marylin Hovercamp, Mr. and Mrs.

O. B. Post, all of Houston. The Harwell's have just mov-7 ed in the old B. Ray Woods residence on Highway 90.

I Waller Co. Hospital Admitted to A.M.A. Hospital Register The Waller County Hospital was advised by the American Medical Association of its admission Feb. 9 to their Hospital Register. To be admitted, a hospital must meet requirements and to retain membership, must maintain high standards of operation.

Since the beginning of 1952 over fifteen major operations have been performed and more than fifteen infants were born at Waller County Hospital. Brookshire Firemen Learning to Use New Fire Truck About twenty-one members of the Brookshire Volunteer Fire Department met last Thursday, for schooling on equipment and fire truck. They are learning to use it and when. to use it. All enjoyed coffee and do-nuts at Edd's Cafe after the meeting.

The Brookshire Firemen meet the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. The next one is scheduled for Mar. 13th. 4-H Party Friday To Honor Loleta 4-H Club girls and boys and their parents are invited to party honoring, Lolita Buchanan and Edward Jahnke, Harris County Gold Star- Girl and Boy at the Theodore Roosevelt Legion Hall, 1610 Chenevert Friday, Mar. 7, at 7:30 p.m.

An interesting program and fun for all is planned. Be sure and be there. Rebekahs Meet Last Monday, the Katy bekahs met with Mrs. Elizabeth Bezzerill and Mrs. Eva Denny as hostesses.

Refreshments of sandwiches, pound cake, peach crumble and coffee were served. This Monday night, the group had as a guest Mr. Frank Jousan, from Sealy. W. S.

C. S. to Have Bakery Sale The Woman's Society of Christian Service in Brookshire hold a bakery sale next Saturday at Shearer's Feed Store. Everyone is invited to buy. B.

Ray Woods to Have Open House Sunday, March 9 Mr. and Mrs. B. Ray Woods cordially invite you to attend open house during the hours of three till six, Sunday afternoon, March 9. Interesting Meeting Held A most enjoyable evening was spent at Mrs.

Katherine Harrison's last Tuesday. Eight memberg were present for the business meeting and social of the B. P. W. Club of Brookshire.

Mrs. Bess Scott of Houston was guest speaker and brought the group an interesting discussion on "News Service." Mrs. Scott emphasized that a good newspaper article answers the questions, who, what, when and where, in the first paragraph. She also pointed out that the club members were in paying their poll tax. The next club meeting will be held in the home of Mrs.

Aline Mitchell on Tuesday, Mar. 11 at p.m. This is a very important meeting for each member. It is (hoped that all may attend..
