The Newcomers Club will hold "its regular meeting at Van's Cafe on April 18th at 8:00 p.m. Fol lowing a short business meeting •the rest of the evening will be spent playing Courtwhist, Shower Honoree A pre*nuptial shower was held April 9 in the Severin Opheim home at Whittemore for Eunice 'Opheim, who will wed Robert Traub of West Bend this spring. Hostesses were Mrs Harold Opheim, Mrs ,Glen Opheim, Mrs Stanley Opheim, Mrs Orrie Peterson,. Jr., Mrs Gerhart Riggert and Mrs Robert Cunningham. Mrs Peterson and Mrs Cunningham assisted the bride-to-be as she opened her, gifts .and Mrs Stanley Nelson was in charge of the guest book. Games were played, with pri- ,-zes going to Mrs Charles ' Ostwald, Mrs Ruby Wolter, Mrs Reunion Mr and Mrs A. D. Crawford, and daughter Cleone, Who teaches in Denver, Colo., attended a family reunion at DCS Moines during the Easter weekend. The group wns entertained by Mr and Mrs Paul Larson and a second dinner was given by Mr and Mrs Jack Bernard. Also in attendance were the mother, Mrs A. C. Crawford, ;Des Moines, and' Mr and Mrs" Robert, Crawford and two sons, Philadelphia, Pa. Farewell Party A farewell coffee was given last Thursday at Mrs Walter Peterson's for Mrs Robert Carlson who is moving to Brainerd, Minn. Guests were Mrs Dean Bilyeu, Mrs Matt Frideres, Mrs George McVay, Mrs Don Trupke and Mrs William Brower, Humboldt. The honoree was presented with a farewell gift. Rose Wolter -Bonnstetter. and Mrs Donah Nebraska Guests '•• A party was held Friday even ing at Mrs Katie,Schroeder's for Mrs Otto Reahder whose birthday was being observed. Other ' ; guests, who with Mrs Reahder ' and her' husband came from ..Omaha, Neb., for the weekend, were Mr and Mrs Gus Hibbeler : and Mrs : . Arnold Luschesen. Secret sisters'were re' vealed and new, secret sisters drawn. New officers are Leona ; Sabin, president; Arline Simon, • vice president; and Doris" Miller, ; secretary-treasurer. They, were installed during the meeting. Lunch was' served by Nina Gisch and Donna Rae Bormann following games. Attend Dinner Among t)iose who attended the Federal Home Loan dinner at the Fort Des Moines hotel, Des Moines, last Wednesday, were Mr and Mrs Duane Dewel, Mr and Mrs Herman Hauberg, Dr. and Mrs Karl Hoffman, Mr ana Mrs Murray Mowers, Mr and Mrs Womens Club Meets The Algona Federated Wo men's club will meet April 17 a ":30 o'clock at the Farm Bureau rooms. Gates, Charles City, who came to help celebrate the birthday of the granddaughter Tammy, 8, Venison Dinner The local Barbershoppers and their wives were dinner guests Monday evening at a vension dinner given at Mr and Mrs Roland Jergens, West Bend. Hosts Card Club Mrs William Carney entertained her card club Wednesday af- iernoon. The previous week the club met with Mrs Arthur Jackman. Operetta Presented "Tom Sawyer" in operetta arrangement, was presented Wednesday afternoon and evening at '.he Lucia Wallace school. GENUINE SPRING Rural Carriers Met Kossuth county rural letter carriers and auxiliary met with VIrs Mary Qenrich at Lone Rock Tuesday evening. There were 15 persons present.'The program included a talk by Ann Berg, Swea Uity, and a lesson by Mrs George Thompson of ; Ledyard. Mrs Morris Giyens, Titonka, and Mrs Pat McGuire, Hurt,' were appointed o investigate the nurse scholar- hip plan. Milton Norton and Judge Mrs G. W. Stillman. and Attend Musicale Among those who attended the Barbershoppers Parade at Fort Dodge Saturday were Mr and Mrs Don Potter, Mr and Mrs Cecil Will, Dr. and Mrs J. B. Harris, Mrs Newton Coughcnour, James Andreasen, Janet Kimmel, Art Olson, Mr and Mrs Corwin Peer and Mr and Mrs Martin Huber. Birthdays Observed Mrs Bertha Pommer and Mr and Mrs Henry Looft, Seneca, were dinner guests Monday 01 Mr and Mrs Caret De Waarde at Titonka. The birthdays of Mr Looft and Mr De Waarde were observed. Mayor's Court Seven traffic cases were heard during a quiet week in Mayor C. C. Shierk's court. Loren Bishop, Algona paid $6, Walter Chinberg, Minneapolis, $10, and Jerald Newbrough, Lone Rock, $15 on speeding fines; Dale Harms, West Bend, $5 for expired registration, and $5, improper equipment; and John Smith, Wesley, $10, stop sign violation. Costs were assessed in addition to fines in each case. To Boys State A former Algona boy, Paul Dieckmann, son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Dieckmann, Rocheport, Ko., was named by the faculty ai New Franklin High School in Missouri to represent Rocheport at Boys State. One boy is chosen from the junior class for the honor. Mr Dieckmann formerly operated a bakery in Algona.
