Monte Miller, Chris and Quinn, Miss Margo Miller of Man- anhattan were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Walklin in Grand Island for the 25th wedding anniversary dinner for Mr.

and Mrs. Clyde Schmedemann of Manhattan. Mrs. Ralph Buck of Glenwood Springs, was also a guest. Mr.

and Mrs. P. J. Fulcomer left Sunday for a vacation through the southern states to Florida. Mr.

and Mrs. Clarence Smith returned Saturday after spending two weeks visiting in Arizona. Mrs. Lena Merlens of Clay Center Aayed with her granddaughter, Miss Nan Smith, while her parents were gone. Suzanne Watson of Salina arrived Monday afternoon to spend two days with her mother, Mrs.

Bessie Watson. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Casselman and family of Hiawatha, Mr. and Mrs.

Karl Gaston and family of Ellsworth were Sunday guests of Dr. and Mrs. H. D. Doubek and Mr.

and Mrs. Wilson Scott to help Dianne Doubek and Claire Casselman celebrate their ninth birthdays. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bonyshek returned last week from San Lorenzo, where they had been visiting their son, LeRoy, and other relatives and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Benyshek were in Emporia last Sunday visiting their son Roger and family. They were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs.

Chester Makovec of Cotton Wood Falls, Kan. Mrs. Minnie Ladwig has returned from a weeks visit in Seneca, Kansas. She was also in Sabetha where she visited friends. Guests of Mr.

Leedom were Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Armstrong and Bill Bishop of Phillipsburg.

Sunday night guests of Mrs. Lloyd Gunn in honor of Robert Gunn's birthday were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gunn, Belinda and Jim of Courtland, Mrs. Ida Smith, Mr.

and Mrs. Earl Hammond and Jim Woods aU of BeUeville. Mrs. Sue Schmidt of Parkers Prairie, arrived Wednesday and will spend a couple of weeks visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Norton Huffman and Charlie, Mrs. Colin Daugherty, Redwood City, and Dewey Shulda of Wichita, came Wednesday to visit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Shulda. Mrs.

Shulda is a patient in the Republic County hospital. Clarence Blanchard has been home sick the past week with pneumonia, Mrs. Ivan Carlgren, Norway and Mr, and Mrs. Will Krob, Belleville, attended a Farm Bureau Communications Conference held in the Cedar Court in Clay Center on February 17. Mrs.

May Collins left Sunday for Fairbury, to visit her daughter, Mr. and Mrs, Harold Acker and family and to see her great grandson who is enroute to the south with his parents, Sunday evening supper guests of Ruby Adams were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hammond, Mrs. Ida Robbins, Mr.

and Mrs. Leonard Royer, Tim and Tonya and James Wood. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Chase from London, Ohio, were guests of Rev.

Red streamers and valentine centerpieces were used on the tables with the nutcups and gifts for the fathers, a sponge car cleaner, that the girls had made.

The program was given by the Brownies, first, singing a "Welcome" to the fathers with a response by Pat Smythe. The "Smile Song" was sung by the Brownies followed by an action story in which the fathers took part. The "Goodnight Song" concluded the program. Mrs. Paul J.

The sixth grade Girl Scouts helped serve the banquet. Lars T. Tiller Lars T. Tiller, son of Lars Fredrick Tiller, was born in Norway, March 4, 1887 and died February 6, 1966 in Oregon City, Ore. He was baptized in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Norway.

Most of his life was spent in Republic County with the exception of the past 20 years in Oregon. On July 18, 1910, he was united in marriage to Esther Larson, To this union were born four children; Elmer, Mildred, Betty May, and Vivian, He was later married to Marie Witsh in Oregon City, Ore. Lars was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Ester, and son Elmer, Those surviving are his wife Marie of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Herb Jordahl, Mothlcy, Mrs. Earl Duval, Klamath Falls, Mrs.

Gilbert Stander, Oswego, six grandchildren, one great granddaughter; one si.ster, Mrs. Inga Hansen, Concordia, Funeral services wore in on February 10 with interment in the Oregon City Cemetery. F. Hughes, 66, pas.sed away February 12, 19G6 at the Hadley Memorial hospital in Hays, Kan. Mrs. Hughes, the former Ada Hawkins, was a graduate ot the Scandia High School in 1918. Survivors include two Col, Larry Hughes, Tuscon, and Everett Hughes, Stockton.

Funeral services were held at Stockton. LIBERTY ROSE CREEK MEET Liberty Rose Creek 4-H club held its monthly meetintt February 12. Twenty -eight memners and two leaders, answered roll call. Sharon Moore played a piano solo for music appreciation, Melinda Derowitsch gave a demonstration, on after-school snacks; Rohnda Levendofsky demonstrated table settings; Jim Childs gave an illustrated talk on What Cut Where. Project talks were given by Gay- loen Wendling on trees; Rita Blecha on dairy, A promotional talk talk on 4-H clubs was given by Donnie Blecha.

The program was presented by Connie Barnes who played the piano. Jack Stroade, county agent, spoke about the judging schools. After the meeting chorus and square dance practice was held. Reporter Barry Childs. Mrs.

Helen Svoboda Helen Svoboda, daughter of Anton and Anna Strumfa, was born on a farm in Republic County, August 1, 1882 and died Fairbury, February 11, 1966 at the age of 83 years, six and ten days. She received her education at- tenuing various schools of the rural eastern Republic county. On September 25, 1900, she was united in marriage to Joe Svoboda. To this union were born two sons and three daughters. She most of her life in the community between Cuba and Haddam.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son and two daughters; two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include one son Ed- Kent Fraley to Officers School Kent D.
