Gary Abbas, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. who called to congratulate his grandparents. Senior Class Play i Members^ of the Burt senior class are presenting the annual class play, "The Scarecrow Creeps" at 8 p.m., Friday, Feb, 17, in .the high school gymnasium. .The play is a mystery com' edy.. ; - ;.-..:.. . Those taking part are Norman Carlson, Larry,Olson, .Joe McGuire/Margaret Keith, Jerry Lee Peterson, Jay HoppUs; • Marsha Dremmel, Jean Steven, Eugene Lovstad, .and. 2 juniors, Linda Ackerman, and Audrey Gardner. A matinee for schoql, children will be presented in • the afternoon. .-•...• :•. A The play is being directed by Mrs Helen Martin. Lenien Services , ; Lenten services have been scheduled in, some of the Burt churches. In , the Me t h o d i s t church, services will be held at 7:30 each Wednesday evening during Lent. St. Johns will also hold services each Wednesday during Lent. One service at 4 p.m. ana one, at 8 o'clock. The 4 o'clock service. ;is ^especially for families with children. Those with children may pick them up at school and come directly to the church. The Meditations at both services will center -about "Great Words Of The Passion", at each service a sound filmstrip of an event in the Passion of Christ will be shown. Show Films The annual Woman's Club Guest Night was held at the Methodist church Monday evening. A 7 o'clock supper was prepared and served by nine members of the W.S.C.S. Guests were'the husbands, Dr, and Mrs Bourne, .Algona, and the members of The Tetrachords from Titonka. Following the dinner the 'Te- traehords" quartet rendered several numbers. Dr. and Mrs Bourne showed pictures of their trip to Japan and. Hong Kong. The Fortnightly Club members will meet with Elva Boettcher Friday, Feb. 10. The members of the Burt Presbyterian and Methodist churches will observe the World Day of Prayer at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb 17, at the Methodist Church. Mr and Mrs Cecil Godfredson visited her mother Mrs Cora Stow Sunday. Other recent visitors of Mrs Stow were Mrs Harold Becker and Mrs Van Steenberg. Sheryl Smith enjoyed a week's vacation with her parents, the Jake Smiths, between Semesters at State University of Iowa. Gary Schichtl, who is attending the University of Wyoming, visited over, the weekend with his mother, Mrs Florence Schichtl. Mr and Mrs Raymond Nelson, LuVerne, visited at the Glenn Teeter home. The ladies are sisters. Hadley Castor, a freshman at Upper Iowa University, Fayette, yisited the past weekend at the Al Hinckley home. He accompanied Roger and Perry Steward who spent the weekend with their parents, The Walter Stewards. Karen Lavrenz, daughter of Mr and Mrs Roland Lavrenz, and a recent graduate of Iowa State Teachers College, has joined the teaching staff in the Cedar Rapids school system. Karen began her teaching duties at Cedar Rapids Jan. 30. Mayor and Mrs Nels Nelson left 'fhursday for <$ 'two month vacation in Texas. Enroute to Texas they will visit relatives and friends in Missouri and Ark ansas. Mr and Mrs 0. M. Gross left Thursday for a vacation in Ari zona. They expect to be gone abtiut 3 weeks. ' Th Mission Study group met with Alieen Sam'ek Thursday, Gehevleve Graham is presenting the book, "One World, One Mission. • Mr and Mrs Eldon Tostetirud Were hosts in their home Sunday.
