By Bill Bryson. (Retfiter Staff Writer.) 1 SIOUX CITY, IA. Two were out in the ninth when the Bruins exploded for three runs and staggered the fast starting Sioux City Soos, 9-7i Tuesday night. Rapid fire singles by Dwight Maxhlmer, Don Swartz and Nels Burbrink yanked Des Moines out of a 7-6 lurch in this opening game of the Western league pre liminary play-off. Another run, for ornamental purposes, was forced home by the inaccuracy of Jack Bell, third Sioux City pitcher.

Use Four Hurlers. The Bruins used four hurlers before they finally quelled the violent Soos. Claimant of the richly-deserved victory was Fred Baczewski. Pitching with only one day of rest after his three-hitter against them Sunday the stylish left-hander blanked the Soos on one Mow after the third Inning. That safe thump was Al Maul's following a walk to Ray Katt with two down In the last of the ninth.

It made Maul the potential carrier of the tying run. Baczewski Sagging. Baczewskl's broad shoulders were, sagging with fatigue and Manager Charlie Root entrusted the clinching putout to Leon roulk. The threat stayed alive through the mounting tension of a three-tw--count, then Billy Pavlick rammed a finishing grounder to Vera Morgan at third.
