Thus on Thanksgiving day the men of the regular army will eat a bountiful feast From Fort Devens Mass to the Presidio of San Francisco C41- and from the newly occupied Atlantic bases to the garrisons of the Philippine islands the festal board will creak with its burden of good things to eat for the solders' holiday meal The day-to-day job of feeding hungry sun-bronzed weather-beaten soldiers a a taught army mess sergeants and cooks that a man who is physically qualified to be a member of the armed forces is a man "who licks the platter clean" So when Thanksgiving day comes these men In the kitchen will try to outdo themselves In catering to the arrnrs Gargantuan capacity to eat The mess hall in most cases will be decorated with straw colored crepe paper ribbons and real autumn-tinted leaves In far-flung posts where the vegetation differs from that of the United States the festival spirit will be depicted with foliage peculiar to the locale When the married men enter the mess halls they will be accompanied by their wives and children who are always tendered special invitations on days like Thanksgiving Before the guest of Mr his appearance other delicacies to please the soldiers' palates will be placed before them Stuffed olives sweet mixed pickles celery oyster soup saltine crackers and Boston brown bread will precede the entrance of the time honored bird In addition the usual accessories will be served with the turkey But that's not all meat pumpkin cocoanut custard and will be placed before the men In olive drab And there also will be ice cream fruit salad coffee tea and milk At many camps dinner will be followed by a football game or some other form of relaxation 4 44 S' 4 4w A 41 :5 4'x4Niiaiioo sl 0 I 4- -''''''''M'''''' 1 'rig 4' 44' 4''!
