While Michigan was clearing Iowa's Big Ten title claims Saturday, the Hawkeyes were asserting their championship skill to end 11 years of frustration against Notre Dame. 'Don't Say That We Work as Team' IOWA CITY, IA. A good arm, a pair of solid legs, a big heart and a brain. Put them together and you have a Kenny Krause: Hawks Par With Spartans, Sooners By Tony Cordaro (Sunday Register Staff Writer) IOWA CITY, IA.

This was the day the Hawkeyes were supposed to be "down" after scaling championship heights that I Asked if it was his best performance, he replied: "Don't say that.

We work as a team, not as individuals. "Speaking for myself, I would say our Ohio State (6-0) victory was our greatest." Nothing New Iowa showed nothing new on offense, because it didn't have to. Iowa used a tight 5-4-2 defense and mostly the wlng-T on offense. Notre Dame employed a 5-3-3 with the tackles wide, along with a 5-4. The Irish didn't show the Hawks anything new that they haven't used in the last two weeks on offense.

Tony HAWKS 'UP' AGAIN TOWA CITY, IA. The more 1 one sees this Iowa team, sole 1956 Big Ten champion, rtie more impressive are the Hawkeyes. Piling up a 43-8 score on a weak Notre Dame team here Saturday, probably the weakest. Irish eleven in modern history, the Hawks looked every bit titleholders in what is probably the toughest football league in the nation. The remarkable part of their Saturday performance was the fact that, aside from beating Notre Dame and ivenging some past defeats, 'Jie game did not mean too huch to them.

Yet they were ready. They were "up" for the fifth successive weekend. Even when players with names like Janda, Coppo-telli and Veit were on duty in the last quarter, the name determination and desire was on display. So eager were the Iowans to prove that they were deserving champions, they scored early and kept scoring SITTIN' IN- Continued on Page Three Bill Stuart (Ames) Roger Helm (C. R.

The Clinton boy had one of his greatest days Saturday, netting 90 running yards and 38 by passing. He scored two of Iowa's touchdowns in the 48-8 rout of Notre Daine. "We knew Notre Dame's ends crash and that was why I was able to make some good runs on the bootleg option," explained modest Kenny after the game. "Running Room" "The Irish ends continued to crash early in the second half, and then the ends floated. When they didN they left off-tackle running room.

"It was on a criss-cross that Hagler ran 53 yards for his touchdown run," Ploen said. State and Oklahoma," Krause made his statement in Iowa's dressing room after the Hawkeyes racked up the Irish, 48-8, for their eighth victory in nine games. "It was the best line I've seen in five years. You have a great team," he told Coach Forest Evashevski. Krause made special mention of the line play of Alex Karras, Dick Klein, Jim Gibbons and Frank Gilliam, "And Kenny Ploen is as good a quarterback as we've seen," he said.

Best. Ail-Around' "As an all-around team, it's the best that Iowa ha3 produced." Krause came into the dress ing room with Father Edmund J. Joyce, executive vice-president of Notre Dame. "There's no doubt, the Iowa line was great," echoed Father Joyce. "It was a great victory for a great Iowa team." Iowa had just concluded a regular season that was its best in years and became the undisputed Big Ten champion Saturday, But there was a puzzling lack of elation in the dressing room as the Hawks marched to their respective lockers.
