Upper Des Moines-3 octct-y FAMILY BIRTHDAYS Mr. and Mrs. Henry Furst attended a birthday dinner at Humboldt Feb. 11 at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Furst. They were joined by other relatives and anniversaries of Richard Furst, Mrs. Henry Furst, Mrs. Robert Holmes and Dorothy Shatto were honored. - o - MRS. BARTLETT HOSTESS Mrs. Wes Bartlett was to be hostess to the P.E.O. today, Feb. 21, with Alvina Miller as assisting hostess. The program presentation is to be made by Jean Harris, Clara Wyatt and Ruth Bey. - o NEWCOMERS MET The Algona Newcomer's Club met last evening, Tuesday, at Sid's Cafe, and hostesses were Sharon Kooyman and Mary Hintz. Slides of a trip to Switzerland were shown by Debbie Laws while she was an exchange student. BIRTHDAY CLUB Mrs. Henry Furst entertained her birthday club at dinner Feb. 14. Members of the club are Mrs. William Geering, Mrs. Paul Richardson, Mrs. Jess Lashbrook, Mrs. Don Sparks, Mrs. Walter Steven, Mrs. Newton Hieter, Mrs. Karl Willasson, Mrs. Lloyd Haubach, Mrs. Louis Lynk and Mildred Robinson. - o OPEN HOUSE Boy Scout troop 70 hosted an open house Feb. 13 for Scouts and parents as part of the observance of Scout Week. A total of 52 Scouts and 89 parents attended the event, which featured displays by each of the seven patrols. A C-urt of Honor was held, with awards going to Scott Dodds, Kris Meyer, Mike Rooney, Tim Rooney and Jeff Miller. * A slide film review of some of the activities during the past years was presented, plus apre- vue of coming events. The troop planned a camp-out during the past weekend, but it was cancelled due to the weather. FRIENDSHIP PARTY Feb. 20, at 7:30p. in. a Friendship Party was held at St. Cecelia's by Catholic Daughters. Women of the Algona churches were guests. Light refreshments were served and the Australian exchange student was also a guest. He is Ian Davison, and is making his home with Mr. and Mrs. Leon Laird. - o - CARD CLUB HOSTESS The card club of which Mrs. Rex Taylor is a member will meet at the Taylor home Thursday evening, Feb. 22, for a Washington Birthday session. RETURN FROM SOUTH Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Jensen are home after a four-week vacation trip in the southland. They visited friends at several points and traveled through various areas. They left Algona Jan. 19. Legion Appointee Chauncey A. Francis, Department Commander of the Iowa American Legion, announced the appointment of Raymond Zeimet of Bode to the National Foreign Relations Council of the American Legion. The appointment was made by William E. Galbraltli, National Commander of the American Legion, and has been approved by the National Executive Committee. Closed Feb. 22 Curtis' P. Haahr, manager of the Kossuth county ASCS office in Algona, announces that the office will be closed Thursday, Feb. 22, in observance of George Washington's birthday. The office will open again on Friday morning at 8 a. m. as usual for business. Driver Charged A Bancroft driver, Mrs. Mary R. Elsbecker, 46, was charged with improper backing after the auto she was driving collided with another driven by Stanley L. Lowe, 27, also Bancroft, there at 12:30 p. m. Friday.
