MR. AND MRS. A. J. Elscheid returned Monday after a weekend visit with relatives at Arcadia and Carroll. While in Arcadia they attended services at the church where Father Ahmann, former assistant in Algona, is now parish priest. BILL CARLSON, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Carlson, who had a tough siege of illness and confinement at University Hospital, Iowa City, is now home and doing well. His regaining of weight has been most pleasing to the doctors and he is now well on the road to recovery. FRANCE, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Zeigler, spent the weekend here with her parents. She is employed in the law office of the Dickinsons. The father, L. J. Dickinson, and his son Call are former Algonans. MR. AND MRS. Walter Zentner were at Winnebago, Minn., Sunday to see Mr. Zentner's brother Sam and also stopped at Delavan to see Mr. and Mrs. Leo Keefe. MR. AND MRS. Walter Elbert were visited Sunday by the latter's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Al Gales, Ft. Dodge. The father, Chris Gales, 92, fell recently and broke his hip. He is at St. Ann Hospital and Wednesday had the hip set by Dr. Adams of Mason City. MR. AND MRS. Howard Beardsley have returned from a visit of a few days at Rock Rapids with the latter's sister-in-law, Mrs. Paul Collins. FEB. 19 at 2:30, Dale R. Morgan, admission counselor of Coe College, Cedar Rapids, will be in the high school to visit with any interested young people. THERE WILL be a Christian Education Committee meeting Feb. 20. Committee members are Ted Smith, A. D. Crawford, Paul James, Mrs. Keith Christie and Mrs. James Telecky. A SERIES of six early breakfasts for men of the Presbyterian church is being planned for the Lenten season. The first meeting will be held at 6:30 a.m. March 2 at the Johnson House. There will be a Bible study. MRS. HELEN Putzstuck was hostess to her birthday club Wednesday. MR. AND MRS. Roger Phillips, former Algonans now living at Analusia, HI., came Monday and will remain until Thursday visiting their sons-in-law and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Voyles, Mr. and Mrs. Gary McDonald and families and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Frederickson of Idaho Falls, Idaho. The Fredericksons are also former Algonans. MR. AND MRS. Bob Cink and Jeff, Mason City, were guests at the home of Mrs. Lorean Johnson Saturday and were dinner guests at the Julius Cink home Sunday. Bob works for the telephone company and was transferred to Mason City in November. MRS. EVA DEEM and her sister Mary Bieser have been visited by Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Deim of Harper's Ferry. They also visited at Bancroft and Feb. 4 were at St. Joe as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Zellar. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Zellar took Mrs. Eva Deim and Mary Bieser to Fort Dodge one day last week to see their cousin, Barney Lentsch, who is critically sick at Mercy Hospital. JON, son of Mrs. Irma Lee Deim and the late John Deim, was here from Des Moines last week visiting his grandmother, Mrs. Celia Deal. Jon has had recent surgery at Methodist Hospital where he is taking laboratory training and other studies. His mother is director at the Y.W.C.A. in Des Moines. AMONG those from a distance who attended the funeral services Friday for Mrs. August Schmidt were her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schneider, Roger and Duane Bierstedt, Braidwood, HI., and Mr. and Mrs. George Simon and sons, Joliet, HI. MRS. JOHN HELMERS had as weekend guests her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Helmers, David, Ricky and Audrey, Duncombe. CINEMA ARTS FILM FESTIVAL Marcello Mastroianni wants a divorce—and beautiful Stefania Sandrelli is the reason — in the Academy Award winning "Divorce — Italian Style", opening Wednesday at the Algona Theatre, through Embassy Pictures release. Daniela Rocca costars as Mastroianni's bothersome wife in the satire which was selected "Best Comedy" at the Cannes Film Festival, and for which Mastroianni won the Italian "Oscar" for "Best Actor" as well as Hollywood's Academy Award nomination for the same honor. BETTY AND PATTY CINK, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Cink, were home for the weekend. Betty, who was employed in Civil Service in California the past 2 1/2 years, was transferred to the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, where she is now doing Civil Service work. Patty, who was employed at Cook's Welders the past 1 1/2 years, is bookkeeper at Dial Finance Co., Des Moines. Linda Lickteig, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lickteig, is also employed Inere. JOE HOLTZBAUER, JR. was here from Des Moines last week to see his aunt, Mrs. William Barry, who is a resident at the Good Samaritan Home. He and his family are well-known former Algonans, though his parents have been deceased for some time. MR. AND MRS. ROBERT DANIELS and children, Jeanie Sires, Chicago, and Mr. and Mrs. John Sires, Jr. and Wendy, Cedar Rapids, were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Sires, Sr. They were joined at dinner Sunday by Mrs. Sires, Sr.'s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Axel Hanson, Armstrong. Mrs. Daniels is the former Julie Sires. MR. AND MRS. Stan Miller, Dubuque, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Sterling. MRS. GRACE TURNER has returned from a visit of several days at Sheldon with her son- in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius DeKruif. Prior to that, she had been in Des Moines with her daughters, Mrs. Ruby Walton and Mrs. Marjorie Apple. MR. AND MRS. Albert Hagg were visited one day last week by the latter's sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Terwilliger and Mrs. Ruby Dodds, Humboldt. MR. AND MRS. Richard Groen have received word from their son, Virgil, who is in service and stationed at McCord, Wash., that he is being shipped out. His destination is unknown. Algona (la.) He is at present located at North Ipswick, Queensland, Australia, but expects to be transferred.
