Algona KATHY MORZ Kathryn Morz, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Walter Morz, Algona, freshman student at Macalester College, St. Paul, Minn., has qualified for the Dean's List of Students because of her high level of academic achievement during the fall term. The Dean of the college, Kenneth P. Goodrich, has written a letter of thanks for her contribution to the intellectual life of the college. Children's Home Society Sends A "Thank You" A special "thank you" to residents of Algona has been issued by the Iowa Children's Home Society on behalf of the children in its care. "We are grateful for the check for $350, representing half of our allotment from the fall drive, which we received recently from the United Fund of Algona," said Lawrence H. Scales, director of the state-wide child-care agency. "The money will be used to provide care for children who must have special help to grow into responsible adults. "Our records show that since 1888, when the Iowa Children's Home Society was established, 186 Kossuth county residents have been under the Society's care. Those who contributed to this work through the United Fund of Algona are making possible the continuation of this long-time service to Kossuth county residents who need it." The Society specializes in working with children who have severe emotional problems. Most of the children live in foster homes while caseworkers, under the guidance of psychiatrists, are helping them straighten out feelings which lead to behavior problems. The Society also finds adoptive homes for children whose ties with natural parents have been cut by death or other circumstances. Last year 165 children were placed for adoption by the Society. The Society collects fees from counties or relatives whenever possible, but when children or unwed mothers have no one to accept financial responsibility for their needs, contributions must be sought.
