BARLEY Dec. I.304 Mar 1.3014 LARD July 22.5A Sept 22 05 Albert Lea Teachers Get $300 Bonus Albert Lea, Minn Albert Lea public school teachers Thursday night were granted a $300 flat cost-of-living bonus for the current school year by the school board after the board heard arguments for the increase from members of the Albert Lea Classroom Teachers association. Because the board had not arrived at the teachers decision until after lip. action on raising the pay of clerical help, janitors aod night watchmen was deferred until a meeting to be held at noon Tuesday, Nov. 26.

The cost-of-living bonus will be retroactive to Sept 1 in the case Df the teachers (on a 10-month pay basis) and to July 1 in the case of those hired on a 12-month pay basis. The former group will get a check for $90 with their regular pay checks on or before Dec. 15 to cover the 3 months, September, October and November, and the remaining bonus will come in $30-a-month installments. Those on 12-month basis, will get $25 a month increase, also retroactive. While air board members con-ceeded that teachers had "long been underpaid," the members also thought about the taxpayer and declined to grant the entire $360 requested by the teachers' organization.

The bonus granted will cost $31,650 while the boost for jani tors, clerical help and night watchmen has not yet been ironed out. It now affects 118 persons.
