Polio Victims Hold A Reunion PICTURE: Page One, Thirty-two families had a reunion in Union Park Sunday, It was polio that brought them together, The potluck picnic was for persons who were vietims of polio in 1952 and had been patients at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. The reunion began as an idea that Mrs. Roberta Cook, 660 Thirty-third and Dick Cole, 3217 Iola had for inviting some of their friends to a picnic in Mrs. Cook's bask yard. Program Grew.

"But everyone liked the idea and the program grew so that we had to find somewhere else to hold it," Mrs. Cook said Sunday, What started as a small party, she said, ended with invitations being sent out to 75 families. Nearly 125 persons attended the get-together, Turnbull came 130 miles 1 her home Lois, in Clarinda to be present. Compare Progress. It was an afternoon for recalling other less happy days and for comparing the progress that has been made in the last two years.

Mrs. Cook told of 6 weeks spent lying in an iron lung and of 10 months in the hospital. Two years ago Galen Robinson, Linden, was brought to the hospital unconscious with severe polio. Today he does his own farmwork, using one crutch for support. Four Out of Five.

Marvin Paul, Osceola, is operating his farm again, too. Four out of the five members of his family were at Lutheran with polio two years ago. Cole, who helped plan the picnic, was hospitalized about eight months. Now he is a student at Drake University and supervisor of several municipal high school swimming pools. Mrs.

Sophia Hetherington, head of the polio ward, was at the reunion. So was Mrs. Greta Albertsen, a therapist who returned from visiting her home in Denmark just in time to attend the picnic.
