Upper DM MoiiMS Tuesday, Jon. 30, 1968 'Family Night' Held Seneca 4-H Party By SENECA- Seneca Progressive Farmer's 4-H Club held their annual "Family Night" Monday evening, Jan. 22, at the Lone Rock Legion Hall. A ham dinner was served buffet style to thirteen 4-H families and special guests, Roger Linde of Swea City, Galen DeValois of Algona and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Looft. Following the dinner, the leaders, Ray Bergum and Roger Jensen, gave announcements pertinent to the club's activities. A welcome was extended to the parents and guests after which Galen DeValois, Kossuth County Extension Director, spoke briefly on the importance of good cooperation between parents and their 4-H sons and daughters. Roger Linde, an honorary 4-H club member, showed a film of a fishing trip taken into northern Canada last June and gave an interesting narrative of the highlights of the trip. 4-H families participating in the event included the leaders, Ray Bergum and Roger Jensen, also Ordean Kabricks, John Ny- mans, Wayne Nymans, Art Ber- gums, Fred Johannesens, Richard Bauers, Claude Johnsons, Paul Bernhards, AmyCherlands, Delmar Fischers, and Henry Wil- bergs. Area College Head Resigns $22,500 Post Doyle Carpenter, superintendent of the Iowa Lakes Community College, resignedhis $22,500- a-year position at the regular board meeting last Tuesday night. Supt. Carpenter stated his reason as a difference in philosophy of the community college concept between him and members of the board. Other board action ratified the starting date of the farm equipment course at Emmetsburg on Feb. 5. The board also set the date for the beginning of the auto mechanics course in Algona as June 24. The date was chosen to enable all high school graduates and also others who are interested in taking the course to enroll. The course will be two years in length. A course in auto body and collision as well as a course in secretarial training will also start June 24 in Spencer and Spirit Lake respectively. Anyone interested in enrolling in any of these courses should contact Mr. Richard Blacker, Iowa Lakes Community College, Estherville, Iowa 51334. It was also reported at the meeting that the State Board of Public Instruction tabled the request for the purchase of land to expand the Arts & Science center at Estherville. Tuesday, Lon Brown underwent surgery at Palo Alto Memorial hospital in Emmetsburg. George Krug entered Veterans Hospital in Des Moines Monday. Mrs. Frank Sweeney has been a patient in Palo Alto Memorial hospital, Emmetsburg, since Dec. 28. Mr. and Mrs. Vic Bargman have returned from a three weeks' trip to Florida where they visited their daughter and family, the Truman Berklands, at Leesburg, and enjoyed sightseeing at many places. Visitors this week in the Silas Banwart home were Mr. and Mrs. Elsasser of Princeville, I1L, and Jerry Knobloch of Brad- ford, m. Mrs. Petrea Christensen has been a patient the past two weeks in Palo Alto Memorial hospital, Emmetsburg. Mrs. W. E. Hundertmark was hostess to the January meeting of the Book Club on Friday. Slides of Africa, especially of the game reserves in Kenya and Zambar, which were taken by Mary Van Horn, were shown by Mrs. W. McCormick and narrated by Miss Van Horn's mother, Mrs. Mabel Van Horn. Miss Van Horn was employed at the American Embassy at Nairobi, Africa for eighteen months and is now assigned to Tokyo, Japan for the next two years. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Menke of Omaha, Nebr., are the parents of twins, a son and daughter, born Jan. 6.
