Uppw DM Mdin«* Thursday, Jan. 16, 1961 Wed At Bancroft Charlotte Lappe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lappe, Burt, and Dennis Franzen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Franzen, Titonka, were married Dec. 20 in St. John's Catholic church at Bancroft. A complete story of the wedding appeared in the Jan. 11 issue of the Upper Des Moines. (Glenn's Studio Photo) Former Bode Area Resident Dies In Calif. OTTOSEN - Theodore B. Williams, 74, passed away Friday, Jan. 5 of pneumonia at San Jose, California. Funeral services and burial were at San Jose. He was born Nov. 6, 1893 to Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Williams on a farm west of Bode. He grew up and attended school at Bode. He married Gladys Twigg, a former teacher at Bode. ^ Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Loren and Eugene of San Jose; two grandchildren; two brothers, Oscar of Ottosen and Harold of Livermore; and a sister, Mrs. Hans Hansen of Keister, Minn. A brother George was killed in World War n. - o - SISTER SUCCUMBS Mrs. John Zastrow, 68, Marshalltown, sister of Mrs. Ray Pentico, passed away Saturday. Funeral services were held last Tuesday at the Pentecostal Evangelical Church at Marshalltown. Mrs. Zastrow was a minister of the church. Mrs. Pentico, Mrs. Stanley Olson and Mrs. Edwin Pentico of Bode attended. - o - Karen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kinseth, celebrated her eleventh birthday on Jan. 3. Marlene Satern was her guest Wednesday night and on Thursday night Mr. and Mrs. Olvin Haug came to help her celebrate. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brockway and three children, who had been visiting her mother, Mrs. Ole Larson at Renwick and the Lenhard Holdens, returned to their home at Sunnyside, Calif, by train Friday night. New Year's Day the Holdens were guests at the Dennis Petersen home at Renwick. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wehr- spann entertained at a card party Wednesday night. Oliver Lee had high score for men and Ed Kemna low. Mrs. Ed Kemna had high score for women and Mrs. Eugene Hofius low. Mrs. Clarence Bauer had travel. Tom Olson of West Bend, father of Carroll Olson, had surgery at the Palo Alto Memorial Hospital at Emmetsburg Thursday. He returned home Monday. Mrs. Eugene Hofius entertained at a canasta party Monday afternoon. Guests were Mrs. Bill Bennett, Mrs. Edward Zinnel, Mrs. W. G. Cooper, Mrs. Essie Cooper and Mrs. Mike Coyle. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kampen and family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kampen and sons and Mr. and Mrs, Merel Ludwig and family of Rutland attended a thirtieth anniversary dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Hans Kampen at Laurens Sunday. Mr, and Mrs. Allen Watnem and family were Wednesday night visitors at the Ed. Grimm home. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Watnem and family were Saturday afternoon and supper guests at the Bruce Watnem home atHumboldt and Sunday they were afternoon and lupper guests at the Randy Watnem home at Humboldt. Margaret Holt was a Tuesday lunch guest at the Russell Hutchinson home at Humboldt. Mrs. Anna Longseth was a Friday visitor at the Melvin Longseth home at Bode. Oliver Christiansen and Mr. and Mrs. Carlisle Halsrud were Friday night supper guests at the Arne Jotten home. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Wehrspann of Colona, HI., were weekend guests at the Raymond Wehrspann home. Mr. and Mrs. Randy Watnem and Shelly were Wednesday night visitors at the James Banwarts. Mr. and Mrs. James Fowler and family were Sunday night supper guests at the home of her parents, Mr. and-Mrs. Virgil Williams at West Bend. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Watnem and family of Klemme were Tuesday visitors at the Percy Wat- nems. Harlan Tofteberg, who attends college at Eagle Grove, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Tofteberg. Alice Elbert Shower Honoree At Whittemore WHITTEMORE - Alice Elbert was honored with a coin and linen shower Sunday in St. Michael's hall. Cards were the entertainment. Mrs. Cletus Elbert, Emmetsburg, and Mrs. Edmund Elbert won prizes and Mrs. Robert Ludwig, Algona, received the door prize. Lunch was served by the hostesses. Miss Elbert will become the bride of Dale Stone in February. - o - ARE ENGAGED Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fleming of Fort Dodge announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Deanne Kathryn, to Harold W. Elbert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Elbert of Whittemore. A Feb. 24 wedding is planned at Sacred Heart Church, Fort Dodge. Miss Fleming is a 1963 graduate of St. Edmond High Schoo; and is employed at Cook's Paint and Varnish Co. Mr. Elbert graduated in 1961 from Garrigan High School and served four years and nine months in the U. S. Air Force. He is a 1967 graduate of Northrop Institute of Technology School of Aviation Maintenance, Inglewood, Calif., and is presently employed by Northwest Orient Airlines in Minneapolis. - o - Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Ollom of Algona, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Voigt were Tuesday evening callers at the Art Heidenwith home. The evening was spent playing cards. Eileen O'Brien of Council Bluffs, Jeff Howe of Treynor, and Jim O'Niel of Council Bluffs were Saturday and Sunday guests at the Edmund O'Brien home. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Elbert moved to Iowa City Monday where Dennis will attend the University. The filberts have been living with Mr, and Mrs. Marion Hyink since Mr. Elbert received his discharge from the army. Dick Kollasch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Kollasch, left Tuesday for Sunnyvale, Calif., where he will be employed with Lockheed Air Craft. He was accompanied by Steve Kollasch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jiggs Kollasch, Bode. At present, there are three young men from this area employed at Sunnyvale. Daniel Rosendahl, son of Mrs. Dorothy Rosendahl, Whittemore, and Dick Kollasch and Dale Bunkofske, Algona. Mrs. Bernard Barry of Mapleton, returned to her home after spending a week at the Edmund O'Brien home visiting her mother, Mrs. M. R. Hurley, and sister, Mrs. Edmund O'Brien and family. Mickey O'Brien is spend- ing the semester break at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund O'Brien. Mickey is a senior at St. Mary's College, Omaha. She has completed her practice teaching in the Omaha public schools. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Voigt and Mrs. Mathilda Meyer of Whittemore visited at the home of Mrs. Gertrude Ruhnke at Lotts Creek Tuesday. FLOWER Miss Gertrude Vaughn of Logan recently displayed a red amaryllis with nine blossoms on it. The blossoms are as large as a plate and measure 7 1/2 inches in diameter. The flower, grown from bulbs, is rare in Iowa as it is usually grown in Africa, south of the equator.
