XOXOXOXOXOX Rose Veronica "Vera" Burch POUGHKEEPSIE Rose Veronica "Vera" Burch, 87, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Monday, April 5, 2010 at The Pines at Poughkeepsie. She had resided at The Pines (formerly Eden Park Nursing Home) for the past five years. Vera was born in Poughkeepsie on July 13, 1922 and remained a lifelong resident of the city and town. She was also a lifelong faithful communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.

Vera was the daughter of Michael A. Mokarzel and Millie Solomon Mokarzel, both of whom predeceased her. On May 13, 1945 she married Paul G. Grega at St. Mary's.

Vera and Paul had two children who both survive: Richard M. Grega and his wife Alexis who reside in Staatsburg, NY, and Theresa A. Silvernail of Poughkeepsie. Paul died on September 6, 1954 and on August 7, 1960 Vera married George A. Burch also at St.

Mary's. George predeceased her in 1995. Vera is also survived by her granddaughter, Tina M. Koch and her husband Patrick and their daughter Jessica of New Paltz, NY and by her grandson, Philip A. Silvernail III and his son Jack of Red Hook, NY and by her sister, Madeline Gilroy of Hyde Park, NY as well as by several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Vera was a graduate of St. Mary's Elementary School, Poughkeepsie High School Class of 1939, and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. She then worked as a registered nurse at St. Francis in several departments but she particularly enjoyed her many years in the maternity department and always thought of the many children born there as "her babies.

She would be delighted whenever she would have someone approach her and tell her that they remembered her from when they had their children and thank her for her care. After the maternity unit at St. Francis was closed, Vera continued her nursing career in the St. Francis rehabilitation department until her retirement in 1987. Vera was a member of the St.

Francis Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. Always proud of her heritage, she was also a life member and past President of the LebanonAmerican Daughters. Vera was very devoted to her family and friends throughout her life and she will always be fondly remembered as a ready caregiver in any time of need. As she became increasingly ensnared in the grip of Alzheimers, Vera needed to rely on similar care and concern from others. Her family extends our deep appreciation to all of those who helped to care for her both at the Manor at Woodside and then at The Pines.

We especially want to thank all of the very caring sixth floor staff at The Pines who cared for her these last five years and who, together with Hospice, supported us all in these difficult last days. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 4 pm to 8 pm at William G. Miller and Son Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY.
