Angela Duckworth as well a her best-selling book, he quality has captured the at- ention of the world as a main ingredient to the success formula. ut what is grit? And more imp ortantly, how can you develop grit in your life? best answer this question, turn the page to another ook, Wright written by historian David cCullough. This book is a time capsule of the 20th century beginning during the years when there was a world-wide race to invent the first man-operated a irplane. While only bicycle akers at the time, the Wright rothers were determined to in this race and show the world hat man could fly. hile some inventors were sponsored by their respective overnments, the Wrights used heir own profits from the bike store.

More problematic was hat the current aerodynamic research was useless, so they eeded to collect new data. The perfect laboratory was a deso- ate but windy point on the North Carolina coast, called Kitty Hawk. It took three days to get there by train and boat. They had to live in a tent and dig their wn well for water. At times, the osquitoes were so bad that hey could not venture outside.

A fter three years of testing, rville Wright flew their a total of 12 seconds in 1903, the first ever recorded engine- ropelled flight. But there was ittle fanfare about their amazing accomplishment. Some ress called them fabricators of this event. This did not deter the rothers. For the next five years, they tested and retested he Wright Flyer until it could be shown to be a reliable mode of transportation.

In 1908, the Wright brothers demonstrated aplane that could stay airborne or more than one hour. Now, the orld took notice. Orville and ilbur had taught the world ow to fly. he Wright Brothers had a mazing grit. It did not matter what obstacles lay in their way, ho believed in them, or wheth- they were going to make money from their invention.

As avid McCullough describes their journey, the Wright Brothe rs had purpose in every step. Their amazing grit came from a urpose to discover that man could soar with the birds. Need grit? Need greater commitment to your job? Do you want to feel unstoppable? ill your life with purpose a nd you will develop grit along ith your soaring success. r.
