Seventh resulted in damages of $15,000 and rendered the house uninhabitable early Saturday night. According to DeKalb Fire Chief AIRiippi, the fire started in the basement because of an electrical short. It will be under investigation for several more days, he said. "The fire burnt the floor joists off in the furnace area, and the first floor started to settle in a bit," Riippi said. "It didn't take long to get the blaze under control, but the place became super-heated and was full of smoke." Riippi said two engines were at the scene, only one of which was needed to control the fire.

"That $15,000 figure is just an estimate," he said. "We don't know how extensively the wiring system, plumbing, or inside floors were affected." Automatic Electric Co. in Genoa. Survifors include one son. Robert.
