In total, said Capt. ason Burns with the Danville Army, there are about 1,600 hours of ringing time, split across seven main sites, 10 hours a day, six days a week. Danville Army has kettles set up in Boyle, Casey, Lincoln and Mercer counties. A few years ago, the board made a commitment to remain volunteer-only on the kettle drive. No one is hired to man the vacant hours, so the money raised at the kettles goes directly to helping with the various programs such as bill assistance. Currently, Burns said, there are still 300 hours of open time before the bells stop on Christmas Eve. While the organization is up to $28,000, on target from last year, Salvation goal is $100,000.
