Fiel a former bookkeeper and homemaker, died Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at Marquette Manor Health Care Center in Indianapolis. Ms. Fiel had been a bookkeeper for her husband's landscape, architecture, and contracting business for many years prior to her retirement. She and her previously deceased husband, George Fiel, operated the landscape, architecture, and contracting business from the Broad Ripple, Indiana, area where they made their home.

After retiring, Ms. Fiel with her husband moved to Marquette Manor in 1982 where she resided until her death. Her husband, George Fiel, died in 1990. Dorothy Fiel was meticulous in her bookkeeping and in all matters pertaining to her life. A memorial service is planned for Thursday, February 5, 2004, at 10:30 a.m.

Glenn 85, Greenwood, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2004. He was born on July 16, 1918 in Indianapolis, IN. He was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School. Mr. Glenn worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and Amtrak for 38 years as a Conductor and Trainman before retiring in 1980.

After his retirement, Mr. Glenn worked in the hearing aid department of L.S. Ayres. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He is preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Schellenburg.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane (Davie) Glenn; one son, John M. Glenn; and two granddaughters, Andrea and Laura Glenn. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 5 in Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service Crematory, Greenwood Chapel.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Washington Park East Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Easter Seals Crossroads Rehabilitation Center, Speech Hearing Department. Thelma F.

Griffin 92, of Indianapolis, passed away February 1, 2004. Born March 3, 1911, Mrs. Griffin was a member of the Aldersgate Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. February 7, 2004 at the Aldersgate Methodist Church, 5335 W.

Hudgins 81, Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004. She was a member of First Samuel Missionary Baptist Church and later became a member of Jehovah's Witness Church. Mary was a graduate of Crispus Attucks High School. She was retired from Wishard Hospital after 17 years and had been employed at Central Supply as a technician.

Survivors: husband, Maurice William Hudgins; daughter, Mary Alice Wallace; sons, James Sharp, Frank Viers and Hallice Viers; grandchildren; and great grandchildren. Services: 12 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5 at Stuart Mortuary with calling from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Interment: Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Stuart Mortuary. John D. Hardin, Sr. was born October 11, 1918 to Joseph A.

Hardin and Florence Ethel Branigan Hardin. A descendant of one of the area's early families. John's great-greatgrandfather Isaac Hardin homesteaded in Marion County in 1826. A retired farmer, Mr. Hardin was involved in political, civic and conservation activities.

A graduate of Purdue University, he was one of Marion County's first participants in the 4-H program, an experience, that was highlighted a scholarship to Purdue and having the Grand Champion Barrow at the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago in 1936. After graduating from Purdue in 1940 he taught in the Newtown and Mellot schools in Fountain County for a time before returning to the family farm near Bridgeport. Mr. Hardin was a charter member of the Ben Davis Lions Club, served as its President, and later was a District Governor of Lions International. In 1958 he was elected to the Marion County Council, and served as its President in 1960.

He was a member of the Marion County Metropolitan Plan Commission from its founding until 1962. In 1962 he was elected Wayne Township Trustee. He also served on the Board of the Marion County's Julietta Home for the Aged for 17 years, and was a founding board member of Indianapolis Community Action Against Poverty, Inc. Mr. Hardin helped establish the Marion County Soil and Water Conservation District and served as a District Supervisor for 23 years, and served as President of the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts.

Mr. Hardin served 18 years on the Marion County Extension Board, including 12 years as President, and was an advocate for providing 4-H and Extension programs for the urban residents of the Indianapolis community. He was honored for lifetime service to Extension, and in 1993 the Purdue Agricultural Alumni Association honored him with its Certificate of Distinction fo rservice to Indiana agriculture. Mr. Hardin was a member of the Bridgeport Masonic Lodge, the Indianapolis Scottish Rite, the Danville Christian Church and Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2004, at Conkle Funeral Home, Hendricks County Chapel, Avon. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at the funeral home, with a masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion County 4- Clubs, Inc.

Hardin, Jr. and his wife Vicki of Danville; a daughter, Jeanette Schollenberger and her husband Donald of Grand Haven, MI; four grandchildren, David Hardin of Avon, Carrie Klockow of Indianapolis, Anne Hardin Stegemoller of Brownsburg, and Scott Klockow of Detroit, MI. He was preceded in death by daughter, Nidrah Jane Hardin and brother, Joseph Branch Hardin.

THE INDIANAPOLIS STAR I SEE WHAT HAPPENS Doc Goodall Keys WWII War Hero Goodall Keys, decorated war hero cand a well-known local woodworker, died Monday night at Community North Hospital. The 78 year old Indianapolis resident started Doc G. Keys Son Construction in 1952. During World War II, Keys served as a United States Marine Corp.

Raider, a highly specialized unit of the United States Marine Corp. He was the recipient of many medals for bravery and valor. He was a lightweight Golden Glove Boxing Champion. Keys was born in Thompkinsville, KY to the late Ollie B. Brooks and Harry Keys.

He was one of sixteen children, including deceased brothers, Gene Leo; sisters, Ruth Rupert, Lucy Cast Robinson and Beulah Moneymaker. Loving brother to Joe, Pat, Barbara Mosier, Elaine and Donna Stansifer; beloved father to George R. Keys, Debbie Keys Manheim (Ken) of Chagrin Falls, OH, Doc G. Keys Jr. (Debbie), Camille Keys Francis (Jon), Pamela Keys of San Diego, CA, and Stacey Keys Stoffer of Nashville, IN; grandfather to Brad Manheim of Cleveland, OH, Amy Veach of Heather Gustin of ChiIL, Brandi Gustin of Ali Cho of Tampa, FL, Tracey Manheim of NYC, NY, Cortney Horstman of Morgan Keys of Angie Keys of Doc Keys of Kylie and Robbie Stoffer of Nashville, IN; great-grandfather to Austie Meyer, Dominique Carrington, Emily, Grayson and Harrison Cho, Emma Crafton and Zoe Gallion of and uncle to his favorite nephew, Marine James Foxworthy, whom he loved like a son.

James W. Lurtey, Jr. 78, Greenville, SC, formerly of Indianapolis, IN, passed away February 2, 2004, after a lengthy illness. He was a 1943 graduate of Maysville High School, Maysville, KY, graduate of Indiana University in 1949 and received his masters in 1953 from Columbia University in NY. He retired from Warren Township Schools in 1991 as a teacher and audio-visual director.

He was a member of Burge Terrace Baptist Church for 32 years, and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army 100th Infantry Division in France and Germany. Services will be held Friday, February 6, at 12 p.m. with visitation from 11 a.m. until service time, at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E.

Washington St. Burial will follow immediately at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greenwood. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen (Moore) Lurtey; brother, Henry Lurtey, and his wife, Barbara (Miller) Lurtey; son, David Lurtey, and his wife, Brenda (Meyers) Lurtey, and 4 grandchildren. Ralph Odell Mathews 69, Indianapolis, died February 2, 2004. He was born March 24, 1934 in Rockfield, KY.

He was a machinist for 25 years for Mead Wesvaco, retiring in 1985. Ralph served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a member of the Rawles Street Church of God. Services will be at 11 a.m. Feb.

She was born on Sept. 25, 1926 in Terre Haute. Bevra was employed at AT for 40 years as a secretary in the Main District Office, retiring in 1988. She was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6 at Daniel F. O'Riley Funeral Home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St.

She was born September 20, 1915, in IndianapSolis. Her parents were Marshal and Lula Belle (Ryan) Allison. She married Harry Schmidt. He preceded her in death. Survivors include five sons, Herbert, Gerald, John, Ralph, Harry Schmidt; five daughters, Mary Lou Givens, Susie Barnes, Donna Helen Carlson, Willa Faye Oholorogg, and Rosalie Mullikin; one brother, Leo Allison; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Carl, Charles, and Harold Gene Schmidt; two daughters, Irene Throgmorton and Geraldine Schmidt; three brothers; and three sisters. She was employed by Howard Johnson's for twenty years as a housekeeper. She enjoyed playing bingo. A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn Wilson St.

Mary A. Schatz 88, Savannah, GA, died January 31, 2004. Born near Brownsburg, IN she lived in Indianapolis until moving to Savannah, GA, 3 years ago. Mrs. Schatz was preceded in death by husband of 45, Otto P.

She was born February 3, 1911 in New Martinsville, WV. She was a homemaker. Smith, Jr. Her husband, Curtis S.

6. Interment: New Crown Cemetery. William of H. Walters 79, Bloomington, died February 2, 2004. He was the Bursar at Indiana University for many years, retiring in 1990.

He was active in the Sigma Chi Fraternity at IU, and won several state and national awards. He was named a Sagamore of the Wabash in 1990. He is survived by his wife Pam (Cagle); their two sons and two daughters and eleven grandchildren. A memorial service will take place at a future date. Feb.

4. Interment: Old Union Cemetery, Boone County, IN. J. Mitchell Wethington 70, died February 1, 2004. He was a member of Church of God United Assembly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kyle and Elcie Wethington and a grandchild. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth McFarland Wethington of Indianapolis; four children, Sylvia Denman of Greenwood, David Wethington of Bowling Green, KY, Phillip Wethington of Danville and Dinah Burton of Indianapolis; a sister, Wilma Nave; 10 grandchildren and three grandchildren.
