She was born July 22, 1924 in Cass Co. Indiana. She was the middle of five children to Harlan and Emma Adams. An native Hoosier who put home and family first, Gladys was also an avid watercolor artist and art teacher. During her years in Logansport she was an active member of the 9th St.

Christian Church, where she served as board president. Gladys was also active in Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority and a member of Eastern Star. In 1982, Gladys and husband John relocated to Indianapolis and later to Brownsburg where she became active with the Central Indiana Artist Guild. She was also a charter member of "Between Paper and Palette," active in the Brownsburg Golf Club and member of Brownsburg Christian Church. Gladys was a cherished and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors: husband of 48 years John W. Alfrey; daughter Jane Alfrey Ingram of Tulsa, Cheryl Katy Alfrey Waldeck of Tulsa, son Samuel Adams Alfrey of Brentwood, TN; five grandsons Robert Ashton Waldeck, Michael Royce Waldeck, Matthew Garrett Ingram, Samuel Adams Alfrey, John Reed Alfrey; granddaughter Elizabeth Libby Diane Ingram; sons-in-law Darrell Ingram and Todd Waldeck; daughter-in-law Julie Alfrey; brother Robert Adams; sisters Zula Noakes and JoAnn Gilpin. Gladys was preceded in death by sister Mary Susan Powell. Gladys left a legacy of family values, abundant love and joy, and fond memories with her many friends. We all miss her beautiful smile and kind heart.

Fred Harlan El Harlan Carmel, a loving husband, father, grandfather and good friend to all who knew him, passed away at the age of 83 on April 30, 2003. Fondly known as "Fred" by his family and friends, he flew 50 missions over Europe as a B-25 Pilot during WWII and returned home to the insurance business, rising to become a Resident Vice President of Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. Fred was best known for his sense of humor and his generous ability to bring a peaceful point of view to anyone's troubles in the world. Fred was a comforting smile to all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rosemary S.

Harlan; two sons, J. Michael Harlan and Christopher K. Harlan; and five grandchildren, Abby, Mark, Carrie, Mandy, and Katie Harlan. No services will be held. However, a Celebration of Fred's Life will be held on Sunday, July 13th at 4 p.m.

at the Five Season's Country Club. Roberta Lee Herron 66, Indianapolis, died Friday, May 2, 2003 at Community Hospital South. She was born September 17, 1936 in Indianapolis to Robert and Virginia (Wetstone) Carmichael. She married Derrel D. Herron on April 6, 1957 in Indiana; he survives.

He retired in 2000 from the U.S. Navy a Senior Chief after 24 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Hoskins; mother, Ruth Smith; and a brother, Rick Hoskins. Vincents North Hospital. He was born Oct. 12, 1929 in Indianapolis. He was the president of Frank E. Irish, where he worked for the past 57 years.

He was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School. He was a member of Englewood Lodge 715 A.M., Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Temple AAONMS, Kiwanis Mechanical and past president of the Contractors Association of Indianapolis for the years and 1990. He won the Distinguished Service Award in 1991 from the Mechanical Contractors Association of Indiana. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Little Red Door. Before becoming a homemaker, Pat was previoulsy employed with Community Hospital of Indianapolis as an RN, St. Francis Hospital as OB GYN nurse, the RCA corporation and the Indianapolis Juvenile Center Infirmary, as a Registered Nurse.

Pat was an avid ceramist, having won several awards. She is survived by her husband Dr. William Kelley; sons Christopher P. Kelley, Indianapolis, Timothy M. Kelley, Vincennes; daughters Mary Colleen Kelley, Noblesville, Bridgette A.

THE INDIANAPOLIS STAR SEE WHAT HAPPENS Aurelia Loretta Josephine Davis Little 90, Indianapolis, IN, died peacefully on May 1, 2003. Aurelia was born June 9, 1912 to Porter C. Davis (Forrest E.

Downey) and Aurelia Loretta Throm Davis Lafferty. After graduating from Arsenal Technical High School in 1929, where she was a national award-winning columnist on the Cannon and developed a love of journalism and theater, she studied acting with Ricca Scott Titus, Evelyn Fife and the Burroughs School of Fine Arts and performed in theater groups throughout Indiana. During that time she was a state runner-up in a Paramount Studios movie contest. When she moved to New York City to pursue a theatrical career, she studied with Jack Robbins' School of Improvisation and acted in repertory and offBroadway theaters. One of her fond memories of the East Coast was her job at General Motors New York World's Fair Division from 1938 1940, where she helped design and build Bel Geddes' Futurama exhibit.

She married William Bruce Richard Little and moved to California where her son Thomas William Little was born. She returned to Indianapolis in 1945 and became a Packaging Engineer and Sales Coordinator for Indianapolis Wirebound Box Company. Her business career spanned 45 years and ended when she retired from Commercial Motor Freight as Supervisor in 1974 and member of Teamster Local 135. Aurelia had a strong sense of social justice and respect for her fellow humans. She was active in the Democratic Party in Indianapolis, serving as Precinct ViceCommittee Woman and President of the Ninth Ward.

She spent a great deal of time as a volunteer on many candidates' campaigns, including of her long-time friend Representative Andy Jacobs, Presidential Candidate Eugene McCarthy and Representative Julia Carson. She was Vice-Chairman of Hoosiers for Peace during the Vietnam War and took her campaign against the war to Washington where she met with senators and representatives who were opposed to the conflict. After the war, she remained an active member of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. She also served as area captain for Carl. Moldthan's Indianapolis Taxpayers' Association.

Having made her way in a man's world for so many years, Aurelia considered herself an activist and a forerunner of the women's liberation movement. Aurelia first attended All Souls Unitarian Church in the 1930's and became an active member in 1946, teaching church school and serving the church in many ways including Secretary of the Church Board, Council member at Large, officer and member of the Fellowship for Social Justice, the Alliance and the More Light Guild and also as proof reader of the church bulletin. She was preceded in death by her brother, Porter C. Davis. She is survived in Rockford, Illinois by her son Thomas (Ruth) Little and in Indianapolis by her close friend and cousin Alice Throm.

The Reverend Bruce Clear will conduct a memorial service Saturday May 10, 2003 at 1 p.m. in All Souls Unitarian Church at 5805 E. 56th St. Indianapolis, IN. Memorials in her name may be made to environmental groups, Planned Parenthood, Spay Neuter Assistance, All Souls Unitarian Church Endowment Fund or the Ella Sengenberger Scholarship Fund at Arsenal Technical High School.

Arrangements by: Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel. Clawson C. Merideth 90, Indianapolis, died Friday, May 2, 2003. He was born on April 7, 1913 in Hall, IN. His parents were Frederick Comer and Mabel (Kirk) Merideth.

He married Mary Belle (Richards) Merideth on September 24, 1938 in Martinsville, IN. He was employed for fifteen years by L.T.V. Steel in Indianapolis as a Warehouse Supervisor, retiring in 1975. He was also a farmer in Boone County for many years. He was a member of Celestial Lodge in Whitestown.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community V.N.A. Hospice Program, 1402 E. County Line Road, Indianapolis, IN 46227. Reverend Elizabeth Gordon Smith will conduct a service at 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 5 at Wilson St.
