AND MRS. Mike Arend attended funeral services Wednesday at Titonka for Clarence Christensen. JAMES MURTAGH, well- known former Algonan who for some time has lived at Tucson, Ariz., suffered a stroke recently and is in the Y A-V A-Pal Medical Center. MR. AND MRS. Floyd Holt and LuAnn are going to Iowa City this weekend to attend the Homecoming and will be guests of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Carman. MRS. She will also be at Fullerton for a visit with her son Gerald and wife. She has made this trip the past 20 years. She has slmost recovered from a fall several months ago and now uses a cane only when away from home. She fell and hit her hip against a door, but no bones were broken and all she can attribute the fall to was a moment of blackout Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin will again occupy her apartment, as they have done in previous years. MRS. ROSE HARMS, who makes her home with Mrs. John Grotte, was visited one day last week by her son, Ed Harms, Titonka. MR. AND MRS. Arnold Gerdis had as guests Sunday the latter's aunt, Mrs. Odessa Ersland and Mr. and Mrs. Jay Ersland and family, Thor. GOOD NEIGHBORS TO KNOW AROUND THE! TOWN& COUNTRY Meet Arthur Zumach I ARTHUR ZUMACH For the past 17 years Arthur Zumach has been farming 80 acres in Fenton twp., 3 1/2 miles north of Lotts Creek. He used to farm more, but he's satisfied with the 80, which he owns, and on which he raises • corn, oats, hogs- and cattle. He is a native of Kossuth county, having lived here all his life. His special interest, outside of farming and family, is his major hobby of doing carpentry work, and he said if he retired he thought he had enough of that to pretty well keep him busy. Mrs. Zumach is the former Hilda Peter who grew up at Story City. They have four living children, Ruth, Mrs. Halbauer of Sioux City; Arlene, Mrs. Danford Schmitt of Lakeville, Minn.; Janice, teaching at Blue Earth, Minn.; and Carol living at Ames, Mrs. Mark Berkland. Her husband is attending Iowa State University. Mr. Zumach has two brothers, William of Estherville and Clarence of Des Moines. Herb Zumach of Whittemore is a nephew. The family is a member of Immanuel Lutheran church, Lotts Creek. Art says he and his wife watch TV some but it spoils your social life with neighbors to overdo it. Farming, he reasons, might be easier because it has less physical work and hard labor than it used to, but it isn't the same in many other ways, and he feels sad at the loss of farms, empty farm buildings, and decline in town and church populations in smaller communities and rural areas. But, at 62, he has enough farm activity and a good hobby to keep him busy — all he wants, anyway.
