1 SATURDAY, AUGUST 2, 2003 1ST THE INDIANAPOLIS STAR WWW.INDYSTAR.COM 'Louie Bluie' Armstrong was a string band fiddler Associated Press BOSTON Howard "Louie Bluie" Armstrong, a string-band fiddler who took his act across the country, mastering genres from bluegrass to jazz, has died. He was 94. Armstrong died Wednesday of complications from a heart attack suffered in March. He taught himself to play at age 9 on a fiddle that his father, a blast furnace operator, made for him in their hometown of LaFollette, Tenn. Armstrong later took up 20 instruments, including the mandolin, violin, viola and banjo.

A composer, instrumentalist and singer, he performed across the country. Two PBS documen- Time of services for Patricia Services for Patricia Bolanos, Key Learning Community principal, have been changed from the tary films, Terry Zwigoff's "Louie Bluie" in 1985 and Leah Mahan's "Sweet Old Song" in 2002, chronicled parts of his life and work. Armstrong lived in Boston and was married to Barbara Ward Armstrong, a soft-sculpture and fabric artist. He was a regular at Club Passim in Cambridge, last appearing there on April 19, 2002. Armstrong played in several bands with his brothers, performing anywhere people would listen to them, including "bars, coal fields, at juke joints, dances, and at medicine shows," he told The Boston Globe in 1999.

Matthew Catholic Church, Allisonville Road. Patricia Joan Miller Bolanos Patricia Joan 69, Indianapolis, died July, 31, 2003. She was born Oct. 31, 1933 in Indianapolis, IN. She studied at St.

Mary-of the Woods College (1952-1954) Universidad de las Americas, Mexico, D.F. (B.A. 1955) Butler University (M.S. 1976) Herron School of Art (1972-1979) and completed doctoral studies in Curriculum and Instruction and School Administration at Indiana University, Bloomington (1984-1987). Principal of The Key School, a research and development site, for the Indianapolis Public Schools (1987-1999); Principal of the Renaissance School, established in 1993 and a middle school and an extension of the elementary program at The Key School; and currently is Principal of the Key Learning Community.

She served on the Advisory Board of the George Lucas Educational Foundation from 1995- 2000 and received the Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Prize in Education (1994). Services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 4 at St.

Matthew Catholic Church, of which she was a member. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, AuHarry Moore Family Mortuaries, Allisonville Road Chapel. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Fishers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Patricia J.

Cousert 83, of Indianapolis and formerly of Oakland City, Indiana, and Bonita Springs, Florida, passed away at 3:55 AM Thursday July 31, 2003 at Eagle Valley Healthcare in Indianapolis, Indiana. A loving husband, father, grandfather, dedicated teacher, World War II Army veteran, and avid traveler, he was born July 28, 1920 in Gibson County, Indiana son of the late Charles Cousert and Mae (Hutchison) Cousert. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Earl Cousert. He married Girly Carolyn Doughty August 24, 1947 in Cannelton.

Mr. Cousert retired in 1975 from the Columbus, Indiana school system where he had been a teacher for 26 years. A member of First Presbyterian Church in Bonita Springs, Florida, he was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite and the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Cousert was a World War II Army veteran, He served with General 3rd Army, 95th Division, known as the "Iron Men of Metz" and received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dr. Girly (Doughty) Cousert; Daughter: Lynn Cousert West and her husband Sheldon, Indianapolis, IN; Twin Sons: David Cousert and his wife Donna, Evansville, Indiana; Dr. Darrell Cousert and his wife Annette, Indianapolis, Indiana; 2 Brothers: Thomas Cousert and his wife Jean, Yorktown, Indiana; Paul Cousert and his wife Maxine, Indianapolis, Indiana; 1 Sister-InLaw: Mrs Earl (Bonnie) Cousert, Pendleton, Indiana; 12 Grandchildren. Downey 79, died Thursday July 31, 2003 in Plainfield, IN. He was a union carpenter and member of the Indiana Carpenters Union Local 758 for 41 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Plainfield United Methodist Church, Plainfield Lions Club, Plainfield Masonic Lodge 653, Scottish Rite and Plainfield American Legion. He was an Army veteran of World War II. She was 94. Mrs. Fletcher was born in Elnora, IN, but spent most of her childhood in Indianapolis. She lived in Indianapolis and Mooresville as a an adult, most recently since 1994. Before that, she was a 25-year resident of Port Charlotte and Charlotte Harbor, FL.

Her husband, Russ Fletcher, died in 1986. Mrs. Fletcher is survived by three nephews and their wives, David Sink and Angela Parker of Little Rock, AR; Stephen and Susan Sink of Long Island, NY; and Robert Drake of Indianapolis. Mr. Drake's wife, Clara Drake, died earlier this year.

Two sisters, Culasa Drake of Carmel and Dorothy Davis of Little Rock died in 1996. Mrs. Fletcher worked as secretary in the offices of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway before joining the staff of the United States Auto Club (USAC) where she was secretary to the director of racing, Henry Banks. She was named an honorary charter member of USAC in 1964. A memorial service will be held in Indianapolis in September.

Mrs. Green earned her undergraduate degree at Purdue University and her Masters degree from Martin University of Indianapolis, IN. She was passionate about music, singing and motherhood. Missy had a bubbly personality and a contagious laugh that touched everyone around her. Mrs.

Green worked many years with Social Services in both Indianapolis, IN and Lexington, SC. She was respected for her commitment and dedication in her field. Surviving are her husband, Gregory Martin Green of West Columbia; daughter, Morgan Kamille Green of West Columbia; mother and step-father, Mary Ann McClenon and Jack Harrington of West Columbia; father, Gerald Bunch of Raleigh, NC; maternal grandfather, William McClenon of Walterboro; paternal grandmother, Dolly Nichols of Raleigh, NC; aunt Janet McConneaughey of Babylon, NY; aunt Kathleen McClenon of Walterboro; aunt Caroline McClenon of Brooklyn, NY; and aunt Marion Greaux of White Plains, NY; uncle Leon Bunch; uncle Dwight Bunch and uncle Gregory Bunch, all of Raleigh, NC; special cousin, Kim McNeil-Richardson, a host of great -aunts, great-uncles, and cousins and many friends. Richard A. Marfurt 80, Carmel, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2003. Mr. Marfurt was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II.

He was employed by Environmental Assurance as a marketing representative for 10 years, retiring in 2003. Previously, he was employed by John Mansville and American Vitrified products. Mr. Marfurt was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, where a Mass will be said Monday, Aug.

She enjoyed golf, bowling, Canadian fishing, and family gatherings at their vacation home in Myrtle Beach. Mrs. Pattyn was widowed to her husband of 50 years, Remi C.

River DesPlaines, IL 60016. Oretha (Skipp), Drummond Pritchard was a faithful woman of God who selflessly served her family and community. She was cherished by her loved ones and friends as a devoted woman of prayer. She was admired for her strength, humor and Godly council. She is survived by her children Jan Knoop, Ann Blaser, Nanette Helm, Marsha Decker, Andy Pritchard, Greg Pritchard, and Amy Ingebretsen.

Welcoming her to heaven are dear daughter Diann (D.D.) Mayer and beloved husband of 53 years, Robert L. Pritchard. Bob and Skipp's marriage was an example to their family of persevering sacrificial love. Skipp was actively involved in her church, Traders Point Christian Church, Macedonia Homemakers Club, Bible Study Fellowship, Country Club of Indianapolis, Hoosier Art Salon, and Tri Kappa Sorority. A celebration of her life will be held at Traders Point Christian Church at 11 a.m.

Monday, Aug. 4th with visitation at the church Aug. 3 from 3 to 6 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Hers was a life well lived and she looked forward to going home to be with her Lord Jesus.

Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, is handling arrangements. Pauline Stone Rowe 85, Indianapolis, died July 29, 2003. Mrs. Rowe was born on November 17, 1917 in Monon, IN to the late Clarence and Gertrude (Pike) Stone. She graduated from Purdue University where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority.

In addition, Mrs. Rowe attained her master's degree from Butler University. She worked early on as a teacher at Young America and as a laboratory technician for Eli Lilly Co. Later in life, Mrs. Rowe served as the librarian at Westfield High School for 10 years, retiring in 1986.

She was a 50-year member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, had served as president of St. Margaret's Guild, and was a member of Meridian Hills Country Club. Friends may greet the family on Monday, August 4, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Northminster Presbyterian Church, with a memorial service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Family burial will take place at West Point, IN.

Survivors include her husband of over 55 years, James L. Rowe; sons, James L. Rowe, Robert S. Rowe, Dr. Richard A.
