1939 HARSHAW GIRL ON LONG TRIP WTHJ-RIENDS I Miss Elizabeth Herman to Visit Many States before Returning Home. HAKSHAW, Aug. 3-(By Cofres- of The Miss Elizabeth Herman, who will teach the grade in the Phelps school the year and who attended summer school the past six weeks at Stevens Point, has- left on a lengthy trip. She was accompanied by Miss Florence Sandmann, Elsie and Thomas Herman and George The latter, a brother of Mrs. Herman, is returning to his in KrtobNoster, after having spent three months at the Herman home.

They plan to visit at Peoria, KnobNoster, Oswego and Marysville, Wymore Meadow, Springfield and Omaha, Neb. On their return trip they will visit Junior Meredith, who is attending school at Chanute field, near Ran- 111., and return home the last of August. Woman's Club Meets. Louise Arneson Federated club met at the home of Frank Loomis last week. The following members were Mrs.

Barrick, Mrs. Mrs. Herman, Mrs. Beltz, Mrs. Marion Michae, Mrs.

Johnson, Mrs. Webster, Mrs. T. and Mrs. Earl Meredith, Mrs.

Bunn and Mrs. Loomis. Five visitors also were 'present. were made for a chicken nner to be held soon. Patriotic songs were sung.

Mrs. Herman was presented with a birthday gift. Harshaw Briefs. Mr. and Mrs.

Creel, a tavern keeper, were shot to death and a woman wounded in a roadside pistol duel early today. The woman, Myrle Stanley, 25, an employe of Creel's tavern, said the six-foot 29-year-old officer fired the shots which killed Creel and wounded her in the leg as he was slumping to the Rusk-Jacksonville highway with a bullet in his heart. She told County Attorney Ellis Lewis that Sheriff Brunt halted the Creel was, loaded with beer, by'shooting a front tire and that Creel fired at the sheriff to open the pistol exchange. pondent of The Marion Hill of Rhinelander, Oneida coXinty nurse, was here this week several times to make final arrangements lor the maternal and child health center to be held in the Enterprise school tomorrow (Friday). The hours are from 8:30 to 11:30 a. m. ahd from 1:30 to 3:30 p. m.

Mothers are urged to come early, and in the morning, if possible. Francis Cline, from the state board of health office at Rhinelander, will give physical examinations to expectant mothers and children under six years of age. These are health conferences. Suggestions and advice are given, but mothers are referred to local physicians for all conditions needing correction or treatment. There will be exhibits and many other things of interest.
