Annual Football Contest Begins Today In UDM Lakota 5-4 Winner Over Ringsted High The collegiate football season gets its official 1967 Upper Des Moines kick-off in this issue with the presentation of the annual Football Contest sponsored by 27 Algona firms. If s a fun contest - and contestants who are able to pick the largest number of winners each week will find it lucrative, too. A total of $15 in cash will be awarded each week during the season to the top three entrants, with $7 for first, $5 for second and $3 for third. Sponsors this year include Universal Mfg. Co., Viking Oil, Iowa State .Bank, Kajewski Champlin Service, Modern Dry Cleaners, Bbhannon Insurance, Potter Dist. Co., Cowan Corp., Hood's Super Valu, Honsbruch Drug, Tom's Radio and TV, The Security State Bank, Reding Gravel and Excavating. North Iowa Appliance, North Central Public Service Co., Jand B Music, Lindsay Soft Water, Elbert Mileage Service, Hutzell's School Supply, Sundet Insurance, Algona Plumbing and Heating, Benson Welding, Montgomery- Ward, Utt Electric, Behr's Standard Service, .the Dairy Queen and Esser Dry Cleaners. Look for the contest page in this newspaper (don't forget), fill out the official entry blank and get in on the fun - and money! Entries must be brought to the Upper Des Moines office, 111 East Call street, or mailed before noon each Saturday. Bancroft smashes Burt19-2 BANCROFT — Bancroft collected 15 and had two errors, defeating Burt 19-2 in high school baseball play Friday night. Burt had four hits and committed seven errors. Dick Welp was the winning pitcher for Bancroft, fanning four and walking two. Bill Wolf was behind the plate for Bancroft. Tom Lappe relieved Wayne Lavrenz on the mound for Burt in the fifth inning and Howard Batt relieved Lappe in the sixth inning. Batt was Burt's starting catching and Lappe finished up behind the plate when Batt relieved. Burt's pitchers combined for seven strike outs and eight walks. Bill Kientitz and Tom Jansen each hit a double for Bancroft. David Stiltz got a triple and Lavrenz hit a double for Burt. Johnnies 5-4 Victims Of Rake Wednesday Rake capitalized on errors in the eighth inning to defeat Bancroft St. John's 5-4 in high school baseball action Wednesday night. Tom Nemmer stroked a two- run homer in the seventh to give Bancroft a temporary tie. Paul Johnson was the winning pitcher. Johnson fanned seven and walked seven. Tom Jansen took the loss for St. John's. He struck out five and walked one. Rake outhit Bancroft 7-6 and each team committed three errors, The big blow for Rake was a double by Dave Lee. Bill Wolf and Dave Blocker each had a double for Bancroft. Ruba, Spur Ludwig, Bless Rusk and Harry Thilges reported extremely good luck - with all men catching their limits of walleyes. Lakota scored five runs on six hits and had three errors. Ringsted collected four runs on nine hits and committed two errors. Hertzke was the winning pitcher for Lakota with Hamilton behind the plate. Dave Johnson took the loss for Ringsted, and James Hanson handled the catching chores. Quartet Has Good Fishing Four area men returned from Baudette, Minn., last Wednesday after a four-day fishing excursion along the Lake of the Woods and Canadian border. Fr.
