(Burt) Harmes, president of Metronics Inc., Algona, was pictured recently on the cover of "Iowa Business and Industry" magazine, and the contract manufacturing plant was the subject of a two-page feature story in this management pur- chasing periodical. Titled "The Marvels of Me- tronics", the article spoke highly of Mr. Harmes outstanding contributions to industry referring to him as "the inventive genius behind Metronics". A number of pictures also accompanied the illuminating review showing some of the 41 employees busily at work. The story pointed out that Mr. Harmes ' 'has patents on 22 items, has patents pending on three others and has decided that patents are overly cumbersome." Metronics specialties are tools; stainless pipe and tube fittings; powered tools for cutting, welding and polishing pipes, tubes and fittings; and the manufacturing of conveying and packaging equipment for food processors. Will Elect Committeemen For ASC Soon Sept 19 has been set for the election of ASC community committeemen throughout the country, according to R.L Anderson, Chairman, ASC comity committee. All farmers who are taking part or are eligible to take part in any of the programs administered by ASC committees are eligible to vote in the elections. Chairman Anderson pointed out that the regular members of the newly-elected community committees serve as delegates to the county convention, where committeemen are elected to fill vacancies on the ASC county committee. These county committeemen are elected to 3-year staggered terms. "The darker the night, the farther the light can be seen." Lakes College Fall Term To Open Aug. 30 The newly-created Iowa Lakes Community College, encompassing the counties of Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth and Palo Alto, will open their initial fall term Aug. 30. Three vocational classes will be offered at the Estherville site: clerical education, practical nursing, and feed and fertilizer marketing technology.
