"Jan is one of the best state directors NFIB has in the country, man or woman," said Daniel Markels, West Region State Public Policy Director. The NFIB is a nonprofit organization, representing small and independent businesses. They provide discounts, research, online forums, networking, state and federal lobbying for small businesses across the United States.

Cindy Sharp looking for work. Obama is under pressure to support the pipeline from Republicans and business and labor leaders who argue it would create jobs; the State Department estimates it could result in up to 6,000 new jobs. "The multibillion-dollar Keystone XL pipeline project will reduce the Salem HR group receives award The Salem chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management received the Platinum EXCEL Award designation for its scope of work in 2011. The EXCEL Award measures include alignment with the organization's overall objectives, strategic focus and initiatives as well as promoting the HR profession at the local level. Cindy Sharp United States' dependence on foreign oil and support job growth by putting thousands of Americans to work," said Russ Girling, Trans-Canada's president and chief Dave Heineman flashpoint in the bitter partisan political fight over jobs and the environment and a focus of the presidential campaign between Obama and his likely Republican opponent, Mitt Romney.

Romney has called on Obama to approve the pipeline. Nebraska Gov. Dave Heine-man signed a bill last month that allows the state to proceed with its review of the proposed pipeline through his state, regardless of what happens at the federal level. State Department spokesman Mark Toner said U.S. officials would conduct a thorough review of the new application, with a final decision not expected until early next year well after the presidential election.

Officials will use previous studies to the extent possible, Toner said, but will need to complete a new environmental assessment, especially since the route has changed since TransCanada first applied for the pipeline in 2008. The State Department review is likely to include hiring an outside consultant, a point of contention in the original review conducted by the agency. Democratic lawmakers complained that the firm that conducted the review, Cardno En-trix, had a conflict of interest because of previous work with TransCanada. The department's acting inspector general found no conflict of interest or improper political influence but said the State Department could have done a better job of evaluating some concerns about the project and should improve its oversight of contractors. By Matthew Daly Associated Press WASHINGTON The Canadian company trying to build the disputed Keystone XL pipeline in the U.S.

submitted a new application for the project Friday after changing the route to avoid environmentally sensitive land in Nebraska. TransCanada said it applied again to the State Department for permission to build the pipeline to carry oil from tar sands in western Canada to a company hub in Steele City, Neb. From there, the project would link up with pipelines operated by the company to carry oil to refineries on the Texas Gulf Coast. President Barack Obama blocked the pipeline earlier this year, citing uncertainty over the Nebraska route a decision that drew fire from Republicans and industry groups. Calgary-based TransCanada had proposed a new route last month that would veer east around the groundwater-rich Sandhills region before looping back to the original route.

State Department approval is needed because the $7 billion pipeline would cross a U.S. border. The department confirmed Friday the application for the new route had been received. The pipeline filing came on the same day as a disappointing report on U.S. job growth.

The Labor Department said employers pulled back on hiring in April for the second straight month, evidence of an economy still growing only sluggishly, though the overall jobless rate slipped to 8.1 percent as more people gave up Yahoo CEO faces calls for ouster after inaccuracy SAN FRANCISCO Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson faces calls for his ouster after just four months leading the troubled Internet company because of inaccuracies in his academic credentials. A major Yahoo shareholder who exposed the misrepresentation Thursday is now leading the charge to dump Thompson for unethical conduct. In a Friday letter, activist hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb demanded that Yahoo's board fire Thompson or face possible legal action. Jobs report sends oil to lowest price in 6 months NEW YORK The price of oil plunged to its lowest level in nearly six months Friday, falling below $100 per barrel for the first time since February. A drop in gasoline prices can't be far behind.

It's a welcome trend for motorists, with the summer driving season just around the corner. Postal Service: House must act to stem mail losses WASHINGTON With financial losses mounting, the nearly bankrupt U.S. Postal Service is urging the House to quickly pass legislation that would give it broad authority to close thousands of low-revenue post offices, reduce labor costs and end Saturday deliveries. At a meeting Friday, the Postal Service's board of governors said that a bill passed by the Senate last week doesn't go far enough to give the agency the latitude it needs. Associated Press executive officer.

"Keystone XL will transport U.S. crude oil from the very large Bakken supply basin in Montana and North Dakota, along with Canadian oil, to U.S. refineries." The pipeline's opponents, including many Democrats and environmental groups, say it would transport "dirty oil" from tar sands in Alberta, Canada, that would require huge amounts of energy to extract. They also worry about a possible spill. The pipeline would travel through Montana, South Dakota, Kansas and Oklahoma, in addition to Nebraska.

In blocking the pipeline in January, Obama said there was not enough time for a fair review before a deadline forced on him by congressional Republicans. The action did not kill the project but put off a tough choice on the once-obscure pipeline, which has become a US stocks sink after weak April jobs report OIL PRICES On the New York Mercantile Exchange, crude fell $4.05 to finish at $98.49 per barrel. The Dow had its second-worst. The dollar and U.S. Treasury prices rose as investors dumped risky assets and moved money into lower-risk too early to declare that the stock market's overall trend was turning downward. The Dow closed down 168.32 points, or 1.3 percent, at 13,038. All 30 companies that make up the index fell, led by Bank of America and Cisco.

The 500 slipped 22.47 points, or 1.6 percent, to 1,369, while the Nasdaq index fell 67.96 points, or 2.2 percent, to 2,956. Only one of the 10 industry groups in the 500 rose, utilities, which investors tend to buy when they're nervous about the economy.
