OCTOBER 7, 1084 PAGE Market Watchers See Chicken, Pork, Eggs as Buys By The Associated Press Frying chickens and pork loin shore the honors this week as the best buys in the meat departments of food stores over one nation. And if you're looking for bargains in food, bear in mind that eggp are really low these days. Frying chickens will be down anywhere from a couple of cents to six cents a pound from a week ago in many stores. Production is up and supplies will be big for DIP rest of this year. In the wholesale markets, broilers are selling nt the lowest prices for this time of year since back in 1S140.

A good number of markets will feature turkeys, too. Again it's a matter of near-record supplies on the farms. The pork situation has shown considerable improvemcn! from the standpoint of the consumer, that is. Last spring's big pig crop is coming to market and wholesale price arc That's why you'll find pork loin on the bargain counter this week. Pork chop pricetags arc being trimmed, also.

Beef prices will be down in some areas and up in others. However, in some stores there'll be weekend feature prices on sirloin, porterhouse and other steaks. Lamb prices won't show much change Sonic markets are reducing egg prices by as much as 10 to 12 cents a dozen this week. For eggs also are at 14-year-lows at wholesale. What's more, federal specialists believe eggs will continue to sell below year-ago levels at least until spring.

On the other hand, butter prices appear to be headed higher. Some markets will add two or three cents to the price of a pound of the spread this week. At the top of the list of good buys in vegetables are cabbage, onions, potatoes, cauliflower, beets and peppers. Produce men also consider celery, spinach, eggplant nnd sweet potatoes as good values. RoadbinderUse Up 30 Per Cent PARK of roadbind- cr on Wisconsin gravel roads has increased more than 30 per cent in 1954 over last year, and will continue to set new records every day that the weather remains open for road work, Walter A.

Sherman, president of the Lake States Road- binder Association, announced today. Consumption has increased about 13,000,000 gallons every year since 1950, and 1954 performance already has passed this mark. "Latest statistics indicate Wisconsin sulphite mills have distributed 57,000,000 gallons of road- binder thus far this year, and will continue to boost the total half a million gallons every weekday when weather perm-its," Sherman staled. "This means the pulp and paper industry now is processing into useful material a huge volume of forest product that formerly went to waste, and is thereby likewise diverting this material from the state's streams. More miles of Wisconsin's unpaved rural roads are becoming, smoother, dust-free and mud-free because county and township officials are taking advantage of this economical roaci material." Neighboring states are beginning to use substantial quantities of sul- phite road-binder since some mills have made it available in concentrated form for economy of shipping.

Just now returned from the annual convention of Illinois township officials at Peoria, Siierman reports "Interest in a sample stretch of roadbinder-treated road ran high and prospects are good there for increased use of this byproduct of the Wisconsin pulp and paper industry. Illinois officials showed special interest in using sulphite road-binder to stabilize soil before laying blacktop and concrete. They believe that stabilizing, base soil before paving may well save them even more money in future maintenance expense." Educational TV Arguments Listed By Taxpayer Group A proposal for tax-supported, educational television network in Wisconsin is debated, but a large part tit the general public still seems be unfamiliar with the issues involved, according to the Wisconsin 1 Taxpayers Alliance, Madison. The proposal for-a state-operated network will be presented to state voters in an advisory at the general election Nov. 2.

The referendum's purpose is to advise the Wisconsin legislature of the wishes of the people, but the 1955 legislature will make the final decision on the TV plan, The proposed hetWork would be BBimmiiffiiiiminium 1111111 GETTING junior members of the woods show mutual interest as they meet over a tree stump at Algonquin Park in Ontario, Canada. Initial costs for build- Ing and equipping tMe network have been estimated at three and ohe-half million dollars. Almost 40 states have indicated an interest of varying degrees in educational television.

At least two states, New Jersey and New York, have tunned down state-supported educational television, while Alabama and Oklahoma have approved it. The unique feature abotit the issue in Wisconsin is that it is the only state in which voters are expressing by means of a referendum on the question. A summary of the arguments for and against state-owned'education- al television, intended as a clarification of the issue, is contained in the October issue of the "Wisconsin Taxpayer," published by the Taxpayers Alliance. UW Band Making Sousa's Music Film 'MADISON The University of Wisconsin Band, under the direction of Prof.JRaymond F. Dvorak, is making a film to commemorate the 100th anniversary this year of the birth of the late great John Philip Sousa, the March King. "We are trying, to show in this film how Sousa's music, representing as it does the spirit of America, has come to be bound up with our fundamental loyalties, our love of country," Prof. Dvorak, explains.

"Just by listening to 'Stars and Stripes 'Semper or 'Washington Post we feel like sticking out our chests and saying 'I'm glad to be an That's the effect we're hoping to get." The film will open with shots of the U. S. Marine Band, which Sousa led, continue with views of the cities he played on his world tours and the Sousa Bridge across the Potomac and public buildings named for him, and include shipboard scenes because Sousa composed "Stars and Stripes" crossing the Atlantic. The UW Band will provide all the music and appear against a variety of backgrounds. Copies of the film will be made for the band's use and for public showings, and others will be sold to film libraries (o help defray the cost.

W-alter Meivcs of the University Photographic Laboratory is cameraman-director, and Student John Lucht of Reedsburg is doing the narration. Both worked on the band Rose Bowl film which has won critical acclaim in showings across the country. The Sousa film will be ready for a premiere in February. think that he should have gotten the book thrown at him. I myself saw the accident, if you would call it that, and I say that he was traveling a lot faster than 50 m.p.h. as he says he was before the mishap. When one man can be sentenced for a car accident which results in a death, I think that another man should also be sentenced, instead of getting away with it. Do you call that justice? I sure don't, and I'm ashamed to call Rhinelander my home town, after a raw deal like that. Cpl.
