Four of Kiefer-Bell's paintings were included in the 1986 Spring Invitational at the Norris Cultural Arts Center in St. Charles during March and April. She and her husband, Jay foul Be, have had paintings on display at the Suburban Fine Arts Center in Highalnd Park.

The show, "Couplings II," is an invitational exhibition of 12 artist-couples from the Chicago area. collection. Also, she was invited to have a one-person exhibition of her paintings at the Botanic Garden in 1987. Jurors for the Flora Exhibition included Ed Paschke, painter; Henry Hanson, senior editor of Chicago Mogoine, and Jean Weber, administrator at the Wisconsin Historical Socity. Kiefer-Bell's mixed-media drawing, entitled "Between the Lines without a Song," was chosen for the Kemper Group Purchase Award at Harper College's 10th Annual Illinois Print and Drawing Exhibition in March.

The Kemper Corporate Art Collection began in "Foliar l-l," an award-winninr. painting by Julie Klefer-Bell, now In the permanent collection of the Chicago Botanic Garden. other musical groups, will be the featured guest director. The Illinois State Scholarship Commission has awarded an Illinois monetary scholarship to Swineheart totaling $2,850. Geneva Ringo of Sycamore, right, and Mearl Wheeling of Sullivan recently enjoyed a cruise to the Bahamas. They visited Nassau, Little Stirrup Cay, and Freeport, for a vacation filled with activities.

Padilla wiru In the past month Anthony Padilla, a 19-year-old pianist from Northern Illinois University, has won the Third Midwest Chopin Piano Competition, the Ru(h Slenczynska Piano Competition, and the Society of American Musicians Young Artist competition. He's also been selected as one of two students who will perform at this summer's Ravinia Festival in Highland Park. For the Chopin competition, Padilla, a sophomore, won $500 and will be flown to New York in June to compete in the National Chopin Piano Competition. Padilla 's interpretation of Chopin won him a special prize of $200 in the Ruth Slenczynska competition, in addition to the overall first prize. One condition of the Slenczynska competition, sponsored by the Belleville Philharmonic Society in cooperation with Belleville Area College, is that the winner give a recital tour in southern Padilla's tour will be next fall.

From the Society of American Musicians, Padilla received a cash award of $1,000.
