Police said he was speeding as he drove east on Hillcrest, south on Normal Road and west on Greenbrier before he was stopped at Annie Glidden and Lincoln Drive. DUI Steven S. Puckett, Elgin, was charged with driving under the influence Sunday at 12:23 a.m. Police said Puckett was eastbound in the 400 block of East Lincoln Highway in the inside lane and crossed over into the curb, causing another car in the curb lane to brake. Police said he than made a left turn onto Fourth Street in front of a westbound car before he was stopped.

He was born SepU 6, 1906, in Chicago, the son of Lee and Evelyn (McMurchy) Clegg. He married Virginia Beydler who preceded him in death in 1971. He married Dorothy (Ault) Mathews on July 11, 1984 in Sycamore. He farmed in the Malta-Esmond area retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Creston Masonic Lodge No.

320, Tabala Temple in Rockford, Scottish Rite in Freeport, North Central Scottish Rite Club in Rockford, DeKalb chapter No. 52 of the Royal Arch Masons, Sycamore Com-mandery No. 15 K.T., the DeKalb Shrine Club and was a 50-year mason. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Kirkland; one son, Lee, grandsons; three sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law. The funeral service will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

Mabel E. Chance Mabel E. Chance, 74, Weslaco, Texas, formerly of DeKalb, died Friday, Oct. 4, 1985, at the Knapp Baptist Hospital in Weslaco. She was born Oct.

1, 1911, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of John Edward and (Hesselton) Kupka. She married Meredith Chance on Dec. 4, 1930 in Washington, Iowa. She worked for the telephone company in Washington, Iowa, and in DeKalb until retiring in 1976. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of DeKalb, a former member of the Rebecca Lodge in Washington, Iowa, and graduated from Washington High School in 1929.

Survivors include one husband, Meredith "Merdy" Chance; one son, John (Judy) Chance, Willard, and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda; one son, Ronald; and one brother Ray. The funeral service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb with the Rev. David Kell officiating.

Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gar- dens. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, DeKalb. Paul R. Lehman WATERMAN Paul R. Lehman, 72, rural Waterman, died Saturday, Oct.

5, 1985 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital. He was born Aug. 16, 1913 in Earlville, the son of Paul L. and Jessie (Donagh) Lehman. He married Florence M.

Anderson June 29, 1940 in Geneva. He was a retired DeKalb Drop Forge foreman and a member of the DeKalb Moose Lodge, the Legion of the Moose, the Shabbona Lake Sportman's Club, and Ducks Unlimited. He was awarded the Carnegie Foundation medal in 1941 for heroism in saving the life of a co-worker. (Only two medals were awarded that year in the U.S.) He is survived by his wife, Florence, Waterman; two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Carol) Bertulis, Naperville and Mrs.

Wallace (Linda Zajac, Hanover Park; a son, Harold P. Lehman, DeKalb; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Catherine L. Floyd, Sarasota, Fla. He was preceded in death by a sister, Myra Woitmen, and a grandson.

The funeral service will be private. Burial will be in Precinct' Cemetery, Earlville. Visitation will be Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the Nash-Nelson Chapel, Waterman. Charles R.

James Charles R. James, 45, Lake Zurich, 111., died Oct. 5 1985 at his home.
