JENKINS In Loving Memory of Geneva Jenkins Sept. 20, Gone, but not forgotten. In life we loved you dearly, In death, we love you still. In our hearts, you hold a special place no one can fill. Daughters Virgie, Addie, Ann and Wilma STRISH In Loving Memory of Larry Strish Mar.

13, Happy 13th Heavenly Rrrthdav! Hugs and Kisses to You and Roxie. Mom and All The Family first as a homicide detective. Now an investigator for the prosecutor's office, he retained the case when he retired from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department at the end of 2007. Ted Stuard has kept in touch with West. He called him after this month's arrests.

Brian Reese is accused of breaking into Clifford Haddix's home on July 6 and shooting him in the head. His father also is charged with felony murder, burglary and robbery, and Brian Reese's girlfriend, Lona Bishop, 24, faces a conspiracy charge. Two days later, prosecutors say, Brian Reese killed Demetrius Allen, 22, and Crystal Joy Jenkins, 28, while in search of crack cocaine. Brian Reese is accused of shooting patrolman Fishburn, 29, in the torso and head July 10, while fleeing arrest in the Haddix case. Fishburn is still hospitalized but has shown signs of recovery.

Barbara Reese, 66 Brian and Paul mother and Paul ex-wife did not respond to a phone message Friday. She still lives on Bosart Avenue. Prosecutors charged her with resisting law enforcement in connection with Fishburn's shooting because they say she drove the van while her son was fleeing. She was released from jail last week. One of her daughters hung up the phone Friday after a reporter called and identified himself.

The detective says his nagging feeling about Paul Reese Sr. and Paul Jr. persists. Like Ted Stuard, he hopes the renewed attention on the Reese family might spur a break in the case. "I'm extremely confident that they're involved in Dawn's death," West said.

"I'm sad that it had to take this to bring her story out. A lot of people lost their lives." Call Star reporter Jon Murray at (317) 444-2752. Investigator says 2 admitted killing to acquaintances then. From B1 said, "somebody who will unburden themselves of what they've known for 22 years." Dawn was last seen alive March 16, 1986, inside the Reese home in the 1400 block of North Bosart Avenue on the Eastside, near the Stuards' home. Ted Stuard and Dawn's mother, Sandra, had left for Ohio that day on a business trip.

They instructed Dawn to finish laundry and then walk to an aunt's house two blocks away. But Steve West, a retired Indianapolis Police Department sergeant, said Paul Reese Sr. and Paul Reese Jr. told police that Dawn came to their house that day, then left. She knew some of the Reese children from Forest Manor Junior High, her father said.

Reese and his son denied any role in Dawn's death, West said. Her body was found the next day on the Near Eastside, near Pogue's Run. Six months later, police arrested the father and son on charges of murder, rape, criminal confinement and criminal deviate conduct. Charging documents said Paul Jr. asked a friend to borrow his Ford Pinto to take Dawn Stuard on a date.

He returned the car a few hours later with mud on the outside, the rear seat folded down, and a wad of duct tape on the floorboard. West told The Indianapolis Star after the arrests that both Reeses had admitted killing the girl to acquaintances and that she might have been strangled with a pool cue. "If you knew my daughter, she probably fought like a tiger," her father said last week. Prosecutors dismissed the charges in January 1987. West said they were concerned a jury would be too skepti- cal about the account of a key witness who said he was at the Reese home that day but didn't take part in the killing.

Instead of risking acquittals, they waited for more witnesses or evidence. DNA testing was only a budding technology then. Ted Stuard said he understood the decision. But in the years since, as tips dried up, his yearning to see his daughter's killer convicted has only grown. "I want to nail the bastard," he said.

In and out of prison During the past two decades, Stuard and the detective have heard rumblings of the Reeses' activities. Paul Sr. has served time in prison for burglary, armed robbery and drug possession. He was released on parole in January. Paul now 38, served sentences for conspiracy to commit burglary, drunken driving and reckless homicide and now is in prison for resisting law enforcement and mischief.

The Stuards moved a few years after their daughter's death to a smaller Indiana community and later divorced. Ted Stuard asked that the town's name be withheld because of a lingering fear of the Reese family. The Dawn Stuard case was West's.
