Obituaries Charles Rex Brough 88, formerly of Carmel, died on May 6, 2007 in his home in Saugus, California after a decade long battle with cancer. The loving and caring spouse of Barbara G. Brough who preceded him in death in 1999. Survived by his son, Charles Rex Brough II, and four daughters: Barbara McLear, Lynn McCormick, Candace J. DiMaria and Randi D.Wood, his sons in Paul McLear, Tom McCormick, James C.

Wood and David DiMaria, and his grandsons: Gregory McLear, Steven McLear, Mark McCormick, David McCormick, James C. Wood III, Ryan Rex Wood, and Daniel DiMaria. A member of the "greatest" generation, Rex served his country proudly during WWII where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corp and was in full charge of four B24 bomber maintenance crews. Even in his later years Rex loved to talk about his Army Air Corp experience.

After WWII, Rex returned to his home town of Ellettsville, Indiana where he entered into a partnership to operate a small retail grocery store. In the late 1940's Rex exited his small business and moved to Indianapolis where he worked for the Stop and Shop retail grocery chain as a meat cutter for several years. In 1950 Rex met and married Barbara Gwin, a marriage that survived until Barbara's death in 1999. It was a marriage full of commitment and love that even Barbara's death could not break. In the early 1960's Rex began what turned out to be a long tenure with the Frankovitz family who operated the Florida Fish and Poultry Market located at 56th Street and Illinois.

Rex was the meat manager of the Florida Fish and Poultry Market where he brought a personal touch and style in doing business the old fashion way. He built up quite a clientele of customers that included many of Indianapolis' most prominent citizens. In 1979 the Florida Fish and Poultry Market closed forever and Rex was recruited by a life long friend, Joe O'Malia, to work in Joe's College Avenue retail store where he worked until his retirement in 1985. A 50 year resident of Carmel, Rex moved to California in 2001 to spend his remaining years with his family. His passions included quiet time with his family, watching sunsets, caring for the local wildlife both in Carmel and California, walks in the woods, riding his John Deere tractor around his Carmel property, riding the powered shopping carts around Lowes, reading, working the daily crossword puzzle and being a loving grandfather.

Rex led a life filled with purpose and dignity and left a legacy for his family to cherish. We lost a simple but kind and gentle man whose spirit will be with us forever. This world could use a few more like him. He's now in a better place with his savior, Jesus Christ.
