Hcndaraon Galuburg Unhappy hooker at 6 79 Park' By JOAN HANAUER UPI Tctevlston Writer NEW YORK (UPI) The virtue of the heroine in "79 Park Avenue" could have been saved by a simple typing course. Not knowing how to type, she turns instead to the way girls earned money long before the invention of the secretarial pool and becomes one of New York's unhappiest hookers and that's just the beginning. NBC has taken Harold Robbins' "79 Park Avenue" and turned it into a six hour television drama to be shown in two hour segments Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, 8-10 p.m. The action, most of which involves the extremes of tawdry sex or adolescent romance complete with invisible violins, swirls around Lesley Ann Warren as Marja Fludjicki, who in a later episode adopts the name Marianne Morgan for professional purposes.

In the very first scene, the tenement reception after Marja's mother (Barbara Barrie) marries Peter Markevich (Albert Salmi) in 193S, the viewer can tell from the way Peter looks at Marja what's going to happen. It does. But first Marja runs around with Ross (Marc Singer), the no-good spoiled son of racketeer Ben Savitch (Eddie Constantine, who plays the role with a "Godfather" hoarseness to his voice). She also has a romance with poor but honest Mike Koshko, who is studying to be a lawyer. Koshko is played by David Dukes, who was the Lassiter son who lost his arm in "Beacon Hill." To earn money to pay her mother's hospital bills, Marja goes job-hunting.

Her skills are minimal, so she goes to work as a taxi dancer for Joker Martin (Jack Weston) at his dime-a-dance palace. Her virtue remains intact until her stepfathe r's assault, after which she stabs him. She goes to reform school rather than admit being raped. One reason for her shame is that while she has lost her NOW PLAYING! Thru Oct. 19th virtue, honest Mike Koshko is holding on to his.

Reform school starts her slide toward 79 Park Avenue, a "model" agency run by Polly Bergen, which by the third and final episode Marja (now Marianne) is running for Armand Perfido, the briefly seen mob chief played by Raymond Burr. This is what is usually called a "woman's show." That means the romance is unrealistically sentimental and the moral tone is high, which in no way interferes with depicting the sleaziest kind of sex. Sex, like crime, is not allowed to pay its practitioners. For the male audience, there are some sexy girls, sometimes scantily clad, as well as a Mafia touch and a couple of murders. The cast performs its duties well, although Warren, Singer and Dukes in the first episode make extraordinarily mature high school students.

Maybe they were left back a lot. The second episode in the strongest of the three, the first the weakest. ALLNEW!
