Douglass, 32, a left-hander, will report to Des Moines Friday. Under terms of the contract, Douglass is free to return to football next fall.

One of them will start in place of the injured Ted Simmons of St. Louis, who outpolled Bench for the positions. He previously played left and rights fields plus second and third bases. Brock, the all-time base-stealing champion, has rebounded from an off-year to earn selection to his fifth team.

Mazzilli, the glamorous center fielder of the Mets who is batting .328, is an All-Star rookie. In the American League, flame-throwers Ron Guidry of the New York Yankees and Nolan Ryan of the California Angels were among the nine pitchers named to a pitching staff that also In-eludes four relief specialists.
