Hillcrest's Waylon Lawson Wins Cross Country Meet THE BELLEVILLE TELESCOPE, Thursday, September 26.1996 7A Topping a field of 37 varsity runners at the Smith Center Redmen Cross Country meet was Hillcrest's Waylon Lawson, who completed the course in a time of 18.13. Coach Eugene Johnson commented the win was especially gratifying for Lawson considering he beat a rival Smith Center runner on his home territory. In addition, a strong headwind provided even more of a challenge. Among the junior varsity, Preston Trecek for Hillcrest placed 20th with a 24.17 time. In the girls division, Ashley Anderson completed the course in 15.03, placing 13th.
