Throughout the 17-week course, he studied the technical problems co.~ifror.ting a junior officer in the Coast Guard, including seamanship, navigation, military drill and communications, plus the principles of damage control, ana the workings of a combat information center. The Coast Guard is part of the Department of Transportation, and is the United States' major agency responsible for maritime safety and marine law enforcement. Servicemen WITH U. S. Evers, Algona, is serving aboard the nuclear- powered submarine Grayling as part of the ships' pre-com- missiong detail. The Grayling, launched at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, N. H., contains the latest equipment relating to submarine warfare. The ship is the second submarine to bear the name Grayling. The first ship served in the Pacific during World War n where she was lost during her eighth patrol. The Grayling is 292 feet long and 31 feet wide and carries Polaris missiles and anti-submarine armament. Daughter Number 2 just came back from Chicago wearing a new style dress. Deim, USX, 18, son of Mrs. John J. Deim, Algona, has been graduated from nine weeks of .Navy basic training at the Naval Training Center here. In the first weeks of his naval Mrs. Roger Jensen entertained a birthday club Friday evening in honor of Mrs. A. A. Krueger*s birthday. The guests included Mrs. E. A. Lee, Mrs. W. J. Cotton, Mrs. Albert Bullock, Mrs. Roy Jensen, Mrs. Melford Mitchell, Mrs. Erich Seegebarth, Mrs. Frank Flaig and Tena Jensen. Mrs. Roy Jensen and Mrs. Ed Blanchard attended Synodical at Storm Lake Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Meyer and boys, Swea City, were Sunday guests at the A. A.
