tttte Clsaf-fidd. frttewm aiiJ County 19. Rubber raft race? With nothing more between them and the water than dozens of rubber inner lashed together to form a raft, over 1,000 teenagers competed in the Black Bart Raft Race on a lake in Sacramento Park in California. Sponsored by Young Life, an interdenominational evangelical organization, the all-day affair included such activities as a target shoot (far right) using 15-feet high slingshots. Down to the sea in tubes (left), contestants ready for the starter's pistol.

The race underway (below, left), rafts of all sizes and shapes crowd the lake making navigation by an inner tube-surrounded (adjacent) crewman pretty tricky. More sophisticated thm the usual entry, a paddle wheel-driven raft supported by submerged rubber tubes (below, right) makes it past the finish line where prizes were awarded to the best decorated craft, the most uncoordinated team and those who came in last. Says Cambodian Officials Bribed Lon Nol To Resign PENDLETON, Cambodian officials bribed Lon Nol with 3 CAMP Calif. (AP) $1 million in order to get him to resign as president and leave Cambodia, says the man who replaced him.

But Sau Kham Khoy told newsmen after arriving at this refugee center Wednesday that making Lon Nol an instant millionaire still didn't save Cambodia from the Communist-led Khmer Rouge insurgents. Khoy said the $1 million payoff was made in American money, but he did not say where the. cash came from. Khoy, Cambodia's last president, said the government paid the money to get Lon Nol out and pave the way to organize stiff resistance against Communist forces closing in. "He was so strong, he had all the military and civil power, but he was a sick man and not able to rule," Khoy said.

Khoy said that if Lon Nol "had remained there it would have been too difficult'to put anything into effect to defend the country. "If we didn't give him enough money he would not leave the country. Well, we paid the price to have Lon NOTE: Income Certificates effective Jen, 1,1976 Not leave, and the country fell anyway." Lon Nol resigned April 1, and 17 days later Cambodia fell to the Khmer Rouge. Nol, suffering from the effects of a stroke, flew to Hawaii after stepping down and is buying a $100,000 house. He could not be reached for comment, and a State Department official said the former president does not wish to talk with newsmen.

Former Cambodian Minister of Culture Long Botta, who talked to 'newsmen with Khoy, said he helped arrange the bribe to Lon Nol. "We thought we had enough time to strengthen the (antiCommunist) position to fight after his (Lon Nol's) departure," Bbtta said. "We didn't know that we had no time and that the government would fall." Khoy said he and most other officials took no money or gold with them when they fled. "If we were rich we would not come to live in this (refugee) camp," he said. "We would go to live in motel or hotel or we would buy some houses." Khoy said he understood many thousands of Cambodians have been killed MISTER DONUT Have we got a delicious donut deal for you! May 15th thru May 31st Mr.
