Milton P. Maloney. MR. ROHDE, a brother of Emmett Rohde of Hearne, was a lifelong resident of Bryan, having been born there April 16, 1887. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the First Baptist Church of Bryan.

He is survived by his wife of Bryan, his brother of Hearne, and two sisters, Mrs. Carl M. Cole and Mrs. Gabe F. Cazell of Bryan.

High School Favorites Are Announced "Most Popular" and "Best AH Around" students as well as the class favorites for this school I year were announced at the val- cntine dance, sponsored by the Hearne High School student council Saturday night. The dance, an annual affair, i was held at the municipal club house. She is survived by two brothers, W. W. Rasco, of Brenham, and Charley Rasco of Kosse; a sister, Mrs. Allie Greer of San Angelo. Organizational Meeting Set For Little League An organizational meeting for the coming Little League baseball season will be held Monday, February 22, at 6:30 p.

Patsv ve Patsy Watson, Mark Ballard, Gaylene Weaver, Larry Coe and Dorothy Lafferty Photo) State Inspection Stickers Lag, Deadline April 15 The State Highway Patrol has announced that out of the 6,940 vehicles registered in Robertson County, only or 1,517 had been inspected for safety stickers by February i960. Capt. E. C. Smith of the Vehicle Inspection Service said that with only two months remaining before the April 15 deadline, many motorists face the possibility of waiting in lino at an approved inspection station.

HE URGED county residents i to have their 1960 safety stickers placed on cars immediately. After April 15, 1C60 owners of vohiclss without inspection stickers are subject to arrest and a fine not in excess of $200.00. The requirements for a safety sticker are the same as in the! lights, horn and! windshield wipers will be inspected as to their working condition. Capt. Boysen of Hearne and a frequent visitor here, passed away at his home in Gonzales Friday, February 12, after a short illness.

He was 84 years of age. Funeral services were held at Seydler Funeral Home, Gonzales, Saturday at 2 p. m. with interment following in Gonzales cemetery. He i3 survived by five sons, two daughters, two brothers and one sister.

HIGHWAY MI A Patrolmen Tippit and Hodges investigated five accidents during January. Four persons wero injured and damage to the vehicles involved was estimated at $1,825. Cars driven by L. F. James and Don Calvin Hay collided Friday, February 12, at 5:05 p.

1.4 miles east of Hearne on the Wheelock road. Patrolman Floyd Tippit said that James was making a u-turn on the road when the Hay car came over a hill and they collided, causing extensive damage to both vehicles. 00 Wednesday, Februray 17, at 1 p. m. an Army jeep, which was pulling a trailer, overturned at the intersection of Highways 190 and 6, north of Hearne.

Sgt. Jose Arroyo of Fort Hood was driver of the Jeep and Pvt. Tinderlin- den, also of Fort Hood, was a passenger. Patrolman Tippit said that Arroyo had stopped at the intersection to allow cars with the right-of-way to proceed when pressure from the trailer forced the jeep out of control on the slippery pavement and It overturned. Tippit said that Arroyo received a shoulder injury in the accident Death Claims Louis E.

Lahm Louis E. Lahm, 53, succumbed in a local hospital Saturday evening after a long illness. Mr. was born in Clarkston, Washington on April 17, 1906, Need 20 Census Takers For Robertson County Close Monday For Holiday The Planters and Merchants State Bank and First State Bank will be closed Monday, February 22, to observe the birthday Gcorgo Washington. The Hearne Post Office and City Hall will also be closed February 22 for the holiday.

Mrs. M. Sherrell Rites Thursday Mrs. Mittie Sherrell, 83, of Franklin passed away in a Hearne hospital Tuesday. Sherrell was bom and reared in Robertson County where she spent her life.

She was a member of the Baptist church. Funeral services were conducted from Franklin Baptist Church Thursday at 3 p. m. with the Rev. Harold Wasson of Hearne as the officiating minister.

She is survived by a son, Frank Sherrell, of Franklin; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Dcuwall of Hearne and Mrs. Alice Harvey of Shreveport, and five grandchildren. LOUIS LAHM and had been a resident of Hearne since 1948. He was division superintendent of the Hearne Products Division, The Texas Pipe Line Company, having been with the company sKnce 1933.

FUNERAL services were conducted from St. Philip's Episcopal Church Monday at 4 p. m. with the Rev. Warren F.

Merritt officiating. Pallbearers at the Hearne services were John N. Yates of Austin, H. R. White of Belton, Irvin Conway of Bryan, W.

V. Hawthorne, J. B. Birdwell Jr. and Larry R.

Mangold, all of Hearne. Named as honorary pallbearers were employees of the pipe line company who were associated with Mr. Lahm. MASONIC graveside services and burial were held at Amarillo Wednesday, February 17, at 2:30 p. m.

Mr. Lahm is survived by his wife of Hearne and a sister, Miss Millicent Lahm of Amarillo. Mrs. E. B.

Priestly of Hearne has been named as Robertson County crew leader for the 1960 census, it has been announced by R. M. Lavender supervisor of the census bureau's district office In Corsicana. Each crew leader will supervise about 20 enumerators in the nationwide census which begins on April 1. Training will begin on March 9 for crew leaders.

The crew leaders will recruit and train census takers. Applicants for jobs as census takers must be over 18 years of age, citizens of the United States, and have a high school education or its equivalent. Candidates will be required to pass a selection test demonstrating their ability to understand written instructions and read maps. Persons who are presently or recently associated with law enforcement or tax assessing or collection agencies are not eligible. CENSUS TAKERS will be paid on a piece price basis.

A diligent census taker should earn about $12.00 per day, the district supervisor said. A $10.09 training fee will be paid to census takers who successfully complete the course of instruction required before they start their rounds, and accept a census assignment. Applications for jobs as census takers may be obtained from R. M. Lavender, Dist.

Karen Rodgers Awarded Trip Miss Karen Rodgers of Austin has been selected by the National Youth Council as a representative to Washington, in March. She has also been appointed through National Education to spend the summer at the Yellow Stone Camps.

Miss Rodgers is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Rodgers of Hearne.

Arnoui J. Rogers Funeral Saturday Funeral services for Arnoui Judson Rogers were held Saturday in Austin. Mr. Rogers was 51 years of age, and was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, two sons, Glen L.

and Arnoui Rogers a daughter, Mrs. Frederick Hurley, all of Austin; two half brothers, Randle Rogers of Hearne and Jerald Rogers of San Antonio; his step-mother, Mrs. T. E. Green of Hearne and five grandchildren.

Nolan Ray Kirk Killed In A Nolan Ray Kirk, 34, was killed in a car accident near Jordan- ton Wednesday evening. A woman passenger in his car was injured when he lost control of the vehicle. Mr. Kirk, a former Gause and Bremond, was ing school at Charlotte. He is survived by his "mother, Mrs.

Lizzie Kirk, of Cause, a sister, Mrs. Clifford Mabe of Bloomington. Funeral services will be held in Gause Friday. Hearne Lodge Will Host Traveling Odd Fellows The traveling Odd Fellows off Central Texas will visit the Hearne IOOF lodge No. 192 Monday night, February 22 for their regular monthly meeting.
