14-Algona, (la.) Upper Pet Moints Tuesday, June 20, 1967 Ledyard Col. Cited U. S. Air Force Colonel William M. McDonald, right, son of Mrs. Ella S. McDonald of Ledyard, has completed an Air War College correspondence course at McGuire AFB, N. J. He was presented a certificate of completion for the two- year associate study program dealing with military strategy and international relations by Maj. Gen. Donald Graham. The course, which is designed to prepare senior officers for high level command and staff positions, was conducted by the top Air Force professional school, the Air University, Maxwell AFB, Ala. Colonel McDonald is director of command control for the Twenty-first Air Force at McGuire. The colonel, who served during the Korean War, holds the Air Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. He participated in Operation Big Lift and in the resupply of Artie forces. In November, 1964, he helped air evacuate personnel from the danger zone in the Congo. Colonel McDonald was commissioned in 1945 through the aviation cadet program and holds a command pilot rating. The Ledyard High School graduate attended College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn. His wife, Evelyn, is the (laughter of Floyd G. Colwell of Dakota City. mental courses. To continue in the program she must maintain at least a "B" average. ANNIVERSARY The congregation of St Ann's church, Vail, honored their pastor, Father D.L. Clark on the 45th anniversary of his ordination. Father Clark has been at the church in Vail the past 30 years. Algonan Sworn In To Iowa Bar June 16 A record number of law graduates have passed the Iowa State Bar spring examination given this past week on the University of Iowa Campus. Among the 174 who passed the examinations was Bill Higgins of Algona, who earned the law degree of U. of I. Those who entered the bar at this time were sworn in Friday (June 16) by Chief Justice T. G. Garfield of the Iowa Supreme Court in ceremonies held at a luncheon in Iowa Memorial Union. Twenty-two of the applicants will complete schooling this summer and will take the oath of admission in August. Algona Girl In Honors Program At University Kathryn Morz of Algona has been invited to join the University of Iowa Honors Program when she enrolls as a freshman in September. The Honors Program is open to the student whose high school record and scores on the American College Testing Program entrance examinations indicate he will rank within the top 10 per cent of his freshman class, according to Professor Rhodes Dunlap, program director. An Honors student attends special sections of required general courses and introductory depart- Council Minutes The City Council met in regular session June 14, 1967 with Mayor Finn and the following council members present: Muckey, Andreasen, Elbert, Cook, Peirce. Absent: Miller. Minutes of the last meeting were approved. Twenty-five cigarette permits, 3 beer permits and 3 liquor permits were renewed. Burns Nugent, representative of WMT-TV, Inc. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, presented a petition asking for a special election to submit the question of a franchise from the city for cable television. July 25, 1967 was the date set for special election. * Resol. approving the sale of Lot 1, Blk. 162, Calls Add., to Herman Wise, was adopted.
