Upper Des Moines Thursday, June 15, 1967 Upper Des Moines SOCIETY NEWS MICHAEL McNEILL WEDS Michael John McNelll, son of Mr. and Mrs. John McNeill of Algona, and Polly Kay Jolley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Jolley of Des Moines, were married Saturday in Des Moines. The young couple will live in Ames where both are taking graduate work at Iowa State University. The bride has her bachelor of science degree as does the bridegroom, and he also has his master's degree. - o COFFEE HOSTESS Mrs. Erby Shipler gave a coffee Friday afternoon honoring her mother, Mrs. Marjorie Apple, Des Moines. RECEPTION HELD A reception was held recently at the home of Mrs. Mary Olson recently for her grandson, Bryce Sampson, in honor of his recent graduation from high school. In attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hoover and Kevin, Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Hoover, Burt, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hoover, Britt, Mrs. Cliff Hoover, Mrs. Gordon Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Deibler, Doug Moehle, Dianne Allen, Theresa Hoberer, and the honoree's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sampson. WEDS IN ILLINOIS In a wedding ceremony Saturday at the First Methodist church in Park Ridge, m., Carole Ann Welsh of Park Ridge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Welsh, and Thomas M. Waller of Algona, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Waller, were united in marriage. Attendants of the couple included Dennis Waller, Jack Williams and Dick Pratt, all of Algona, Also attending from Algona were parents of the bridegroom, sons Steve and Jack, Mrs. Dennis Waller, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Pratt and Richard Hutchins. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Zender, former Algonans, now living: at Glen Ellyn, El., also attended. Mrs. Zender is the former Pam Waller. The Zenders recently moved to Glen Ellyn, following transfer of Mr. Zender from Cleveland to Chicago by General Electric. Tom Waller is a 1967 graduate of Drake University, where his bride was also a student. They will make their home In the Chicago suburban area where Tom will be associated with the publications division of All State Insurance at Northbrook, HI. The bride and groom left on a wedding trip to northern Minnesota following the ceremony. - o - WED 30 YEARS Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Thuente, Mrs. John Thuente, Esther Thu- ente, Omaha, and Mrs. William Sanguin (Jacqueline Thuente) of Cherokee, went to Breckenridge, Minn. Sunday to attend the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. WUliam Thuente. They are brother and sister-in-law of the late John Thuente. AT GRADUATION Mr. and Mrs. Gene Hood and Mrs. Gusta Patterson were at Mason City Sunday to attend the graduation of James Patterson, nephew of the Hoods and grandson of Mrs. Patterson, who spent the weekend with her son, Stanley and wife. - o - DOUBLE OBSERVANCE Mr. and Mrs, Roy Hutzell and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hester of Earlham met in Ft. Dodge to celebrate the 40th wedding anniversary of both couples. Mrs. Hutzell and Mrs. Hester are sisters. - o - TWO BIRTHDAYS Mrs. Mount Kinseth gave two parties honoring the birthdays of her son, Tom, on his llth birthday, May 31, and for her daughter, Susan, who was 12 on June 6. PLEIKU, VIETNAM - Army Sergeant First Class Donald J. Maalis, whose mother, Mrs. Edna Maalis, lives in Whittemore, was assigned to the 937th Engineer Group near Pleiku, Vietnam, May 20. Sgt. Maalis, a construction inspector, with Headquarters Company of the group, entered the Army in 1950 and was last assigned at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. He completed his high school education through a general education development test. His wife, Marie, lives at 111 N. Fourth St., Lansing, Kans. Burtis, Algona, is serving in Vietnam as a member of the Eleventh Motor Transportation Battalion, a unit of the First Marine Division based near Da Nang. His battalion provides general motor transport support to the division in order to give the Do You Have One? Livermore. They went to the state park for games and refreshments. Susan's guests were Debbie Kern and Patty Wagner. From out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Loren Bell and Billy, Corwith, and Mary Elbert, Whittemore. - o - SON WEDS The marriage of Donna Ball, Duncombe, and David Hanselman, son of Mr. andMrs. John Hanselman, was solemnized Tuesday, June 6, in the Trinity Lutheran church with only a few guests, and members of the family present, with Rev. H. Sohn officiating. Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. John Krug. Following the wedding, which was performed at eight o'clock, the wedding party and guests had dinner at Van's Cafe. David was graduated from Ft. Dodge Community College June 8 and during the summer will be employed with his father. In the fall he will enter State University at Ames. A miscellaneous shower was given May 31 at Mrs. John Hanselman's for Donna and hostesses were Mrs. Alvin Hanselman, Mrs. George Hanselman, Mrs. Lee Hanselman, West Bend, Mrs. Laura Kirsch, Spencer, Mrs. M. Shower Fetes Bride-To-Be At Titonka Bonnie Young, Traer, fiancee of Jim Sparks, Davenport, was honored with a bridal shower at the Titonka Methodist church, June 5. About 85 guests were in attendance. Mrs. Gene Meyer, program chairman, introduced the honored guests and announced the program. Mrs. Lester Eden led iii scripture and prayer; a hymn v<'as sung by all; humorous readings v/t-re given by Mrs. Chuck Bec-d and Mrs. Homer Downs; a solo was sung by Mrs. Lament Junkermeier, accompanied by Mrs. W.
