Q&A WITH JUSTIN WILSON Wilson is nice, but kids aren't easy Justin Wilson, who will drive the No. 22 Dreyer t Reinbold Racing car from Uth on the starting grid today, sat down for a chat with The Indianapolis Star's Phillip B. Wilson. Question: So do you get tired of being called nice all the time? Answer: Well, yeah, it gets old. I tried to mean up my image. My friends have called me "Badass" since 1999. Q: Does it work? A: No. I'm still too nice. Q: Any more Formula One aspirations? A: No. F-l was great, I still follow it a little bit, but it's not something I want to go back to. I'm really happy in IndyCar. I see this for the foreseeable future. Now, obviously, if Ferrari turned up and said here's a three-year contract worth $8 million, that would twist your arm. But it's not going to happen. Q: What if Ferrari offered you that contract but said you can't be a nice guy anymore? Could you do it? A: I don't know. That would be pretty tough. You can't change what you are. Q: Once upon a time, you drove a car sponsored by McDonald's. So are you living proof there is life after McDonald's? A: (Laughs). Yeah, definitely, although they do have some healthier stuff now. They've still got good salads. Q: What's it like being with Dreyer & Reinbold? A: It's nice to get back into a car. I'm still here. Things are looking up. It's fun driving for Robbie (Buhl) and Dennis (Reinbold). They're good team owners. We're just building. On top of being nice and tall (6-3Y2), I want to be the winner. When I win, that will change people's opinions. Q: Am I counting right, that this is your fourth team in as many years? A: One every year so far. My goal is to win for Dreyer & Reinbold. And the thing I'm focused on is the ovals. Q: There's a new Wilson in the world? A: Yes, Jessica. She's 4 months old. Q: And you have another one? A: Yes, Jane, she's 2 years old. Q: Is Jessica sleeping through the night? A: Yes, they both sleep through the night. My wife (Julia) got Jessica through the night after a couple months. That's pretty good. But it's still tiring having two so close together. It's just constant. You can never actually start anything. Or Jane will go up to Jess and pinch her ear or bite her finger. Q: You're surrounded by girls. Do you feel outnumbered? A: I'm not trying for a boy. Everybody I know who has tried that has ended up with three girls. You've got to learn to cut your losses and move on at some point. Q: How are Jess and Jane? A: They are opposites. Jane doesn't cry too much. Jess does all the time. Q: First time for them at the racetrack? A: Jane came last year just for practice. She was all right. Had the big ear-muffs. She sees the cars on TV and goes, "Oh, Daddy." Q: Do you have a prediction on how Jess is going to handle it this year? A: My wife will be the one to have to deal with that. She gets the hard work. That's when I disappear. Q: Don't you just know Jess will go ballistic? A: She could. She's constant noise. It might actually put her to sleep, who knows. Maybe she likes the sound of V-8s. Q: How about Indy. Do you learn something new each time you return? A: Yeah, there's always something to learn. The moment you think you've got it all figured out it's the same with any part of motor sports, when you think you know it all then you're in trouble. There's always things you can do better. whh m KffiBL Bad Credit? No Credit? BK's? Divorce? NO PROBLEM!
