Moraveik THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC School districts that face possible dismantling or expansion under a statewide redistricting plan could have a harder time filling vacancies. The Glendale Union High School District and the Phoenix Union High School District both must hire superintendents as their futures hang in the balance. Theresa Nichols, 62, of Phoenix Arizona passed away on August 16, 2007. Born July 19, 1945 in LaJolla CA.

Theresa graduated in 1963 from LaJolla High School and attended San Diego State College from 1963 through 1966. Theresa worked at Sears Roebuck Co. from 1964 through 1994 and retired from Sears in 1995. She then went to work with TriWest Health Care in December 1996, managing military medical programs in 16 states. She was Director of Compensation the time of her death.

She is survived by her brother Melvin Nichols, and his wife, Marilyn of Redondo Beach CA and their two children Robert E. Nichols, his wife, Michele and two children, Megan Anne and Ryan Robert of Peoria AZ and Michael Nichols, his wife, Valerie and their two children Alex and Kimberly of Valley Center CA; and her brother Robert L. Nichols, and wife, Teresa Ann of Raleigh NC and their two children Dorian Jackson, and wife Michelle, and their two children Alexander and Jacob of Escondido CA and Lamont Jackson, and wife, Tiffany, and their two children Daniel and Noah of San Diego CA. There will be no services, per Theresa's request. Daniel Palazzolo, son, brother, father, cle, and friend, will be greatly missed. He was welcomed into this world, February 1st, 1953 in Royal Oak, Michigan. His indelible mark will be carried in the hearts of all those who sorrowfully go on without him. Graveside services will be on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 11:30 A.M. at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 2300 W. Van Buren, Phoenix, AZ Gordon Friend Rennie, 93 of Phoenix, AZ, died June 13, 2007. Gordon was born May 9, 1914 in Spokane, WA to Gordon F. Rennie, Sr.

and Mabel Hamilton Rennie, and grew up in Seattle. Gordon's insurance career began in San Francisco and Seattle. He married Winifred Rennie in 1942 (divorced). Gordon served in the U.S. Army during WWII, stationed in Juneau, Alaska.

Following the war he worked for The St. Paul (Insurance) Companies in Los Angeles, CA. In 1969 he transferred to AZ as Gen. Mgr. of the new Phoenix branch office, retiring in 1975.

Gordon married Dorothy Beaudoin in 1970. They lived in their Scottsdale home until 2000 when they moved to The Terraces retirement community in Phoenix. Gordon loved traveling, music, and golfing, and was a member of the Mesa Golf Club. He was an avid fan of the AZ Diamondbacks and Phoenix Suns teams. Gordon was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy, his parents, sister Virginia, and brother Donald.

Survivors include sister Barbara Russo (John), nephew Dr. Gordon F. Rennie Ill (Cindy), three grand-nieces, Andrea, Allison, and Emily Rennie. Also survived by step-children Jeff Beaudoin (Karen), Sandra Meyer (Jerry); three stepgrandchildren, Randy Meyer (Diane), Lisa Ryan (Matt), Shelley Reinhart (Bruce); six step-greatgrandchildren, Christopher and Andrew Meyer, Nathan and Brett Reinhart, Kaitlyn and Abby Ryan. As a spiritual and faithful woman, she enriched her family with the love of God and trust in our Blessed Virgin Mary. Barbara worked as an office secretary, first in New York and then in Arizona.

She was very active in the Catholic Church. She loved to serve God, helping the community through her volunteer work at hospice, garden home, as a lector and Eucharistic minister. Barbara enjoyed reading the Scriptures, especially at Masses. She will always be remembered as a loving, caring, charitable and faithful person. She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends, both in the United States and Mexico.

Barbara is survived by her mother, Helen Seal; sisters, Toni McPartland and Christine; brother, Eugene Galan and his wife, Anita; grandsons, Gunnar, Kai and Andrew; nieces and nephews, Michelle, Craig, Jeffrey, Scott, Christine, Christopher, Alyssa, Debbie, Gina, Brian, Kevin and Laurette; brother-in-law, Richard Schwan and his wife, Linda. Arrangements entrusted to Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, William Arizona Simson was born in Phoenix Arizona on August 19, 1927 and passed away at his home in Catalina Arizona on August 2, 2007. He was a second generation Arizonan. His father was one of the first volunteer firefighters and his grandfather was one of the first fire chiefs in Phoenix.

Bill served the Army at the end of World War Il as an information a and education specialist. He brought home many of life in Japan and thrilled his youngest daughter Lisa by teaching her how to count to ten in Japanese. His interest in military ships and aircraft was a continuing source of study and entertainment throughout his life. He graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in building engineering. Bill worked for Arizona Public Service, a utility company for thirty two years and was manager of the land and survey department.

He distinguished himself professionally as a past president of the International Right Way Association. His job responsibilities frequently took him to the Navajo Indian Reservation. He fondly recounted cultural as well as humorous stories of the experiences he had while visiting reservation. Ya-Ta-Hey Bill! of creating shove replica models of tanks, ships, airplanes and remote control vehicles was passed on to his son Gary. This also applied to one of his favorite activities, knowing what was going on in the neighborhood via the police scanner.

After retiring in Pine Arizona he did private consulting for Coates Field Service and in his spare time continued traveling the world with his wife Joan. He also enjoyed his membership with the Lions Club in Payson Arizona. Following Joan's death in 2003, Bill was diagnosed with Alzheimers Dementia. He moved to Catalina Arizona where his daughter Wendy, and family, cared for him at home. Family members preceding him in death were his beloved wife Joan and his Glendale Union governing board President Kevin Clayborn said he is concerned about attracting qualified candidates who would be willing to take up the post just months before the redistricting plan is expected to go to voters in November 2008.

"We are a nationally known district and we think people will want to come and work for us, even with the uncertainty of a redistricting election looming." James Joseph Rose, 52, of Goodyear, died August 15, 2007. He was born on June 18, 1955 in Lakewood, Ohio. Mr. Rose is survived by his wife Isabel; sons, Jimmy and Michael; brother, William and sister-inlaw, Louisa; nieces, Lisa and Heather. A visitation will be held from 6- 8pm Sunday, August 19th at Thompson's Valley West Funeral Chapel in Goodyear, AZ.

Joyce M. Ryan, age 78, died on Thursday, August 16th at her daughters home in Kennesaw, GA. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother by her 5 children and 10 grandchiland friend to many. She is survived dren. Lloyd August Saari.

Lloyd was born Nov. 11, 1921 in Clifford, WI. He died Aug. 12, 2007 in Chandler, AZ. Lloyd grew up on a Wisconsin farm.

He wanted to become an English teacher, but like so many of his generation, life had other plans for him. During WWII he enlisted in the Army Air Corps Air Corps and trained as a bomber pilot. On Valentine's Day 1943, Lloyd met Dorothy Drake and six weeks later they were married. Their union lasted 54 years until Dorothy's death in 1997. Lloyd was stationed in Norwich, England with the 389th Bomber Group.

June 28th, 1944, on a mission over Germany, Lloyd's B-24 Liberator suffered engine damage and he was forced to crash-land in Switzerland. He was interned in Davos until the war's end. Upon his return to the states, Lloyd and Dorothy relocated to Washington State, where he forged a 32-year career with PNW Bell and raised six children, all of whom survive him: Sandra (Del), Sue (Alvin), Michael (Sandy), Robert (Sandi), Pamela (Toni) and Jonathan (Deborah). Lloyd is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 20 greatgrandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Lloyd was a proud father, an engineer, a mentor and a man of his times.

He will be missed. A memorial for Lloyd will be held August 22, 2007, at at: Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1035 E. Guadalupe Road, Tempe, AZ 85283, 480-839-0906. Lloyd will receive a full military honors ceremony, and be interred next to his wife at the VA National Cemetery on August 23, 2007. It's not just hospice.

He has seven grandchildren and ten great grandkids. A private service, at sea, will honor him on August 18, 2007. Barbara Anne Smallwood, 70, of Laveen, AZ, passed away on August 14, 2007.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Larry, children; Wayne Smallwood, Katharyn Smallwood, Bonnie Kimbrell, sister; Mary Weiler, brother; Max Stumfoll, 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Private services were held. Arrangements entrusted to Lowmans Arizona Funeral Home, Inc. David E. Tillman, age 79, died on August 15, 2007.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, dral August 20, Christian 2007 at Center, Dignity Cathe16635 N. 51st Glendale. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 10 AM until services. Interment will follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery. Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, Glendale is assisting with arrangements.

Rudy H. Turk, 80, of Tempe, Arizona passed away on August 14, 2007. Rudy was born on June 24, 1927, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. An avid reader, historian and artist, Rudy found a career, joy and expression in the arts. Rudy retired after 25 years as the Director of the Art Museum at Arizona State University.

He was ASU's first and only Director Emeritus. Rudy was also a prolific writer, lecturer and painter. Rudy found the love of his life in his wife Wanda, to whom he was married for 51 years. Rudy is survived by Wanda and his four children, Tracy, Maria, Andrew and Jennifer and his grandchildren James, Leah, Lily, Kinsey and Kendall, all of whom adored him. Rudy was the beloved brother of Mary Ann Kovacic and the cherished nephew of Theresa Koenitzer, both of Greendale, Wisconsin.

In his life, only those who did not know him failed to become Rudy's friends. He was a man who always gave more of himself than he asked of others and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Memorial services for Rudy will be private. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been established in Rudy's name. Scholarship donations can be mailed to the ASU Herberger College of the Arts, Office of Development, PO Box 872102, Tempe, AZ 85287-2102.

Checks made payable to ASU Foundation, Rudy Turk Award in History of American Craft. Jack Ware passed away on August 8, 2007, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born February 18, 1924, in Tulsa, OK. He served as a Officer in WWII in the Pacific Theater on PC1210. He received a BA from the University of lowa and spent his career as the consummate professional TV and Radio Broadcaster in Phoenix and Cottonwood, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Elizabeth He is survived by his children Wendye (Larry) Ostresh, William (Christie) Ware, Lisa (Bauer) Duke; and step-children Sharon (Tom) Kinman, Tim Henthorn and Jeff Henthorn. He has fifteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. His Golden Voice is Silent. Vincent Wendt, 84, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on August 15, 2007. Survived by his wife Shirley, and sons Russell, Steve, sister Alan, Jennie, Paul Dignity brothers Joe Jack, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Carolyn was a bank teller at First Financial Bank in Middletown, Ohio for most of her life, until retiring and eventually moving to her new house at Pueblo Sereno in Scottsdale. Carolyn was blessed to have been surrounded by such wonderful friends and neighbors who she dearly loved. Her family you all.

Although Carolyn endured many obstacles in her life, she maintained her cheerful and positive attitude, a trait that her family hopes will live on in all of us. Carolyn will forever be missed. Williams had an easy chair, he loved cookies and a good joke. "Ole went to the doctor for a physical. He was blessed with 8 siblings with 3 still living. He has many, many other relatives and good friends. Reuben lived in Arizona for 21 years. He was born, June 1, 1925, on "the farm" in rural Minnesota. His father delivered him.

Reuben was full blooded Norwegian. His mom and dad came to America in 1919. Reuben spent most of his life serving our country. He earned the Bronze Star, Distinguished Flying Cross and many other awards. He is known for flying Santa Clause to the children of bases in Germany, flying around the world in four minutes and eating goat's eyes with King Hussain. After retiring, Reuben took to his love of woodworking, building clocks, furniture cabinets. He was happiest when he was able to give a piece of his work to friends or strangers. There are many good memories of Reuben that will be passed on to generations.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 21, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Gerald "Jerry" Wood, 40, of Atlanta, Ga passed on July 25, 2007. Born in Jackson MI, came to Az in 1969. Graduated from Tolleson High in 83. Jerry served in the Navy 5 years on the USS Nimitz.

He was the office manager at Chiro Plus for 5 years then started his own business installing commercial carpet from west to east coast. He is survived by his mother Sharon and step father Tom, CO, his sisters Amie Wood Tina Carter AZ, brothers, Bill Wood, SC, George Wood, CO, Frank Owen, CO, John Owen, AZ. A memorial service will be held at Westridge Baptist Church 6828 W. Van Buren at 1:00 pm. He was a great hearted person and will be dearly missed.
