MORNING WEE TV guide PROGRAMS AUSTRALIAN WITH A WORLD Sean Scully is 27 and has had a wealth of experience in the world of acting. At 16 he even appeared on Broadway a rare distinction for an Australian-born actor. In a future episode of TEN 10's Matlock, "Nothing Man," he appears as a man without a past and very little future who sets the detectives off on a trail of murder and avarice. "I play a fellow who works for a mining company," said Sean last week. "With another, I go out to.

a property owned by two eccentrics and dig around. We unearth a stack of old gold coins of which only two before have ever fallen into the hands of collectors. One of the partners gets killed and I get clobbered and wander about for days in a comatose state." The two eccentrics, it seems, are about to toss him down a derelict well, when true to form, the Matlock police arrive and save the day. Sean Scully likes playing these off-beat characters. "They're much harder to find and much more challenging," he said.

He is not the only acting member of his family. His mother, Margaret Christensen, is an actress with a long list of credits behind her. Last week she opened at the Elizabethan Theatre in "Doctor In The House" with Robin Nedwell and Geoffrey Davis. On the other hand, his father "plays the fiddle" housewife," and his he "sister is a said with a hint of amusement. He was in London with his mother when he auditioned for Walt Disney's "The Prince and the Pauper" and won the dual role.

It is a film that most people remember from its frequent school holiday rereleases. It offered some memorable moments for Sean Scully, notably the splitscreen sequence which involved the cameras supposedly looking over "their" shoulders matching the movements in a mirror. "That involved 346 he said. He later did two more films for Disney one in England, the other in Vienna. Of Walt Disney he said: "I think his list of credits is most impressive.

He treated me extremely well. Of course he was a businessman and so he Sean Scully is star material Sean Scully with Monica Maugham in a scene from "A City's Child." had little to do with the authority of actors." In London Sean Scully auditioned for the New York musical "The Girl Who Came to a Noel Coward venture based on Rattigan's "The Sleeping "It was a year before the event, and Herman Levin said: 'Be in my office in New York on August said Sean with an American drawl. "The opening night on Broadway was for me a mixture of enthusiasm, control and nerves. And that would have to be the most unquotable quote of all times." He was back in Australia at 18 and from the list of shows in which he has appeared it would seem. he has not stopped working.

He found American theatre directors more authoritarian and more frightening than those on his home ground. "They stick to discipline. Well, that's because there is a hell of a lot of money at stake. Here, it is more or less one of our patronised arts." The most exciting thing he has done, he feels, is the role of the bent David in "Sticks and Bones" with the Melbourne Theatre Company. It was based on the American television series The Another he enjoyed was the part of the motherdominated blind boy in "Butterflies Are Free" at Sydney's Playbox Theatre.

While many child actors experience traumas and nervous dyspepsia making the transition to maturity, it was never like that for Sean Scully. "There were some moments of difficulty," he recalls, "but certainly nothing I could not cope with. It didn't drive me to heroin or anything like that." Currently he is appearing in the perennial radio serial Blue Hills, playing Steven Rossiter, the 45- year-old husband of Jackie. He has done eight or nine episodes of the series which is now well past its program. He recently appeared in a Brian Cavanough film "City's Child" with Monica Maugham.
